Chemical Cleaning Scale Removal Process

Recirculating closed-loop cleaning

Recirculation cleaning utilizes two original parallel ash piping lines to form a circuit, creating a circulation system with the cleaning pump station. It introduces a certain concentration of acidic solution, which circulates through the ash water pipes for cleaning. As the acid washing reaches a certain degree, the solution is continuously replenished with more acid. For short-distance single ash water pipes, if conditions permit, a temporary pipeline can be laid to create a recirculation circuit for cleaning. This process must be carried out while the system is shut down, and it is complex with higher costs.

Preliminary Cleaning

During cleaning, no two grey pipes can form a loop; only single grey pipe open-circuit cleaning is allowed. The method involves connecting one end of the grey pipe to the cleaning unit, continuously preparing a specific concentration of cleaning solution in the dosing tank, and then continuously or intermittently injecting it into the grey pipe. This process requires adding cleaning equipment during shutdown, resulting in higher costs.

Continuous operation cleaning

The process involves continuously injecting a certain amount of acidic solution while the ash pipe is operating normally without interruption. Simultaneously, a specific quantity of ash pipe operation cleaning inhibitor and pipeline cleaning descaler is added for open-loop cleaning. The primary function of the cleaning additive is to promote the reaction between the acidic solution and the ash scale at a certain concentration and flow rate, while also enhancing its solubility in water and reducing the formation of air blockages, ensuring the quality of ash pipe cleaning.

The procedure is as follows: Before cleaning, first estimate the required acid amount based on the total scale in the pipeline. Then, calculate the acid addition rate and the flow rate of the sludge pipeline by considering the flow rate of the gray water and the acidity. During cleaning, take a sample at the front end of the gray pipe every 30 minutes to test the acidity and strictly control it by adjusting the flow rate of acid addition. In the later stage of cleaning, take a sample at the end of the gray pipe every 15 minutes to test the pH value. The cleaning can be deemed complete when the pH value reaches a certain level and remains unchanged for 30 minutes.

2. High-pressure water jet cleaning equipment
High-pressure water jet cleaning offers advantages such as high efficiency, low cost, non-damaging to workpieces, environmental protection, ease of operation, and safety.
Advantages of high-pressure water technology include:

(1) Excellent Cleaning Quality - The high-pressure water jet cleaning for pipes and heat exchanger bores can completely remove scale and obstructions from inside, revealing the metal surface. With its immense energy and ultra-sonic movement, the high-pressure water jet is fully capable of destroying tough scale and obstructions without causing any damage to the metal.

Since the pressure of high-pressure water is less than the pressure resistance grade of metal, high-pressure cleaning will not damage the cleaned substrate.

(2) Fast Cleaning Speed: Due to the combined actions of water jet scouring, wedging, shearing, and grinding, scaling can be quickly broken and removed, which is several to tens of times faster than traditional chemical methods, sandblasting and shot peening, simple mechanical, and manual cleaning methods.

Components cleaned with high-pressure water jet do not require a second cleaning process; however, after chemical cleaning, the surface chemicals must be rinsed off with clear water.

(3) No Environmental Pollution: As high-pressure water jet cleaning uses pure water as the medium, it does not generate a large amount of dust like sandblasting, grit-blasting, or simple mechanical cleaning, which can pollute the atmosphere and harm health. It also does not produce a large volume of waste liquid like some chemical cleaning methods, which can contaminate rivers, soil, and water quality. The water jet cleaning with pure water as the medium is odorless, tasteless, and non-toxic. After atomization, it can also reduce the dust concentration in the work area, lowering atmospheric dust from 80mg/m³ using other methods to below the national safety standards, thus causing no pollution.

3. Pipe Scale

(1) Classified by chemical composition, they can be categorized into carbonate scale, sulfate scale, silicate scale, and mixed scale. The main components of carbonate scale are calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate; the main components of sulfate scale and silicate scale are calcium sulfate and silicate compounds, respectively; mixed scale is usually a mixture of the above three types of scales.

(2) Categorized by physical properties, there are two types: scale that is firmly adhered to the pot shell and tube walls, and sediment that is loosely textured and easily detachable.
Lime scale primarily forms due to the salts like calcium and magnesium in the boiler feed water, which precipitate and adhere to the metal surface upon heating. Lime scale has a very low thermal conductivity, approximately 2 to 5 times that of ordinary steel. When lime scale accumulates on the boiler's heating surface, it significantly worsens the heat transfer efficiency and affects the boiler's performance; it can easily cause metal materials to burn due to localized overheating, even leading to pipe explosion accidents; it also accelerates galvanic corrosion, causing pipeline lime scale corrosion and speeding up the damage to the heating surface. Once lime scale forms, it should be promptly removed using mechanical or chemical methods.
