Chemical Cleaning Scale Removal Process

Recirculating Closed Circuit Cleaning

Recirculating cleaning utilizes two original parallel ash pipelines to form a loop, creating a recirculation system with the cleaning pump station. A solution of a certain concentration is added, which circulates through the ash water pipeline for cleaning. As the acid washing reaches a certain level, acid is continuously replenished. For short-distance single ash water pipelines, if conditions permit, a temporary pipeline can be laid to form a recirculation loop for cleaning. This process must be carried out during shutdown and is complex, with higher costs.

Breakbulk Cleaning

No two gray pipes should form a loop during cleaning; only single gray pipe open circuit cleaning is allowed. The method involves connecting one end of the gray pipe to the cleaning device, continuously preparing a certain concentration of cleaning solution in the dosing tank, and injecting it into the gray pipe continuously or intermittently. This process requires the addition of cleaning equipment during shutdown, resulting in higher costs.

Continuous Cleaning

The process involves continuously injecting a certain amount of acidic solution while the ash pipe is operating normally without interruption. Simultaneously, a certain quantity of ash-pipe running cleaning inhibitor and pipeline descaling agent is added for open-loop cleaning. The primary function of the cleaning aids is to promote the reaction between the acidic solution and the ash scale at a certain concentration and flow rate, while also increasing its solubility in water and reducing the formation of air blockages, ensuring the quality of ash-pipe cleaning.

The procedure is as follows: Prior to cleaning, estimate the required acid quantity based on the total scale in the pipeline. Then, calculate the acid addition rate and the flow rate of the descaling agent and pipeline cleaner by considering the sludge water flow and acidity. During the cleaning process, collect a sample at the front end of the sludge pipe every 30 minutes to test the acidity, and strictly control the acidity by adjusting the acid flow rate. In the later stage of cleaning, take a sample at the end of the sludge pipe every 15 minutes to test the pH value. When the pH value reaches a certain level and remains unchanged for 30 minutes, the cleaning can be considered complete.

2. High-pressure water jet cleaning equipment
High-pressure water jet cleaning offers advantages such as high efficiency, low cost, non-damaging to workpieces, environmental friendliness, ease of operation, and safety.
The advantages of high-pressure water technology include:

(1) Excellent Cleaning Quality - The high-pressure water jet cleaning of pipeline and heat exchanger bores can completely remove scale and blockages inside, revealing the metal surface. The high-pressure water jet, with its immense energy and supersonic speed, is fully capable of destroying hard scale and blockages without causing any damage to the metal.

Since the pressure of high-pressure water is less than the compressive strength grade of metal, high-pressure cleaning will not damage the base material being cleaned.

(2) Fast Cleaning Speed: Due to the combined crushing effects of water jet washing, chisel splitting, shearing, and abrasive cutting, scaling can be quickly broken and removed, several to ten times faster than traditional chemical methods, sandblasting, shot peening, simple mechanical, and manual cleaning methods.

Additionally, parts cleaned with high-pressure water jetting do not require secondary cleaning; however, after chemical cleaning, the surface must be washed with clean water.

(3) No Environmental Pollution: Since high-pressure water jet cleaning uses pure water as the medium, it does not generate a large amount of dust like sandblasting, shot blasting, or simple mechanical cleaning, which can pollute the atmosphere and harm health. It also does not produce a large volume of waste liquid like some chemical cleaning methods, which can contaminate rivers, soil, and water quality. The water jet cleaning with pure water as the medium is odorless, tasteless, and non-toxic. After atomization, it can also reduce the dust concentration in the work area, lowering atmospheric dust from 80mg/m³ with other methods to below the national safety standards, thus causing no pollution.


3. Pipe Scale

(1) Categorized by chemical composition, they include carbonate scale, sulfate scale, silicate scale, and mixed scale, among others. The main components of carbonate scale are calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate; the main components of sulfate scale and silicate scale are calcium sulfate and silicate compounds, respectively.

(2) Categorized by physical properties, there are two types: hard scale that firmly adheres to the pot shell and pipe walls, and soft sediment that is loose and easily detachable.
Scale primarily forms due to the salts of calcium, magnesium, and other minerals in the boiler feed water that precipitate and adhere to the metal surface upon heating. The thermal conductivity of scale is very low, approximately 2 to 5 times that of ordinary steel. Scale accumulation on the boiler's heat transfer surface significantly worsens the heat transfer efficiency, affecting the boiler's performance; it can easily cause metal materials to burn out due to localized overheating, even leading to tube explosion accidents; it also accelerates galvanic corrosion, causing pipeline scale corrosion and hastening the damage to the heat transfer surface. Once scale forms, it should be promptly removed using mechanical or chemical methods.
