Chemical Cleaning Scale Removal Process

Recirculating Closed Circuit Cleaning

Recirculation cleaning utilizes two original parallel deslagging pipelines to form a loop, creating a recirculation system with the cleaning pump station. A solution of a certain acidity concentration is added, which circulates and cleans within the sludge water pipes. As the acid washing decreases to a certain level, the solution is continuously replenished. For short-distance single sludge water pipelines, if conditions permit, a temporary pipeline can be laid to create a recirculation loop for cleaning. This process must be carried out while the system is offline, and it is complex with higher costs.

Preliminary Cleaning

No two gray pipes should form a loop during cleaning; only single-pipe open circuit cleaning is allowed. The method involves connecting one end of the gray pipe to the cleaning unit and continuously preparing a specific concentration of cleaning solution in the solution tank, then injecting it into the gray pipe continuously or intermittently. This process requires additional cleaning equipment when the system is shut down, resulting in higher costs.

Continuous cleaning without shutdown

The process involves continuously injecting a certain amount of acidic solution while operating the ash conveying pipes, simultaneously introducing a specific quantity of ash conveying pipe cleaning inhibitor and pipeline descaling agent for open-circuit cleaning. The primary function of the cleaning aids is to promote the reaction between the acidic solution and the ash scale at a certain concentration and flow rate, while also enhancing its solubility in water, reducing the occurrence of air blockages, and ensuring the quality of ash pipe cleaning.

The procedure is as follows: Prior to cleaning, first estimate the required acid amount based on the total scale in the pipeline. Then, calculate the acid addition rate and the flow rate of the ash slurry pipeline's cleaning inhibitor and pipeline stripping agent based on the ash water flow rate and acidity. During cleaning, take a sample at the front of the ash pipeline every 30 minutes to test the acidity and strictly control it by adjusting the acid flow rate. In the latter stage of cleaning, take a sample every 15 minutes at the end of the ash pipeline to test the pH value. When the pH value reaches a certain level and remains unchanged for 30 minutes, the cleaning can be deemed complete.


2. High-pressure water cleaning machinery
High-pressure water jet cleaning offers advantages such as high efficiency, low cost, non-damaging to workpieces, environmental friendliness, ease of operation, and safety.
High-pressure water technology boasts the following advantages.

(1) Excellent Cleaning Quality - The high-pressure water jet cleaning of pipe and heat exchanger bores can completely remove scale and blockages inside, revealing the metal itself. The high-pressure water jet, with its immense energy and supersonic speed, is fully capable of destroying hard scale and blockages without causing any damage to the metal.

Due to the pressure of high-pressure water being less than the compressive strength grade of metal, high-pressure cleaning will not damage the base material being cleaned.

(2) Fast Cleaning Speed: Due to the combined effects of water jet washing, splitting, shearing, and grinding, scale can be quickly broken and removed, several to ten times faster than traditional chemical methods, sandblasting, ball-shotting methods, simple mechanical, and manual cleaning.

Components cleaned with high-pressure water jetting do not require secondary cleaning; however, after chemical cleaning, the surface needs to be rinsed with clear water.

(3) No Environmental Pollution: As high-pressure water jet cleaning uses pure water as the medium, it does not generate large amounts of dust like sandblasting, shot blasting, or simple mechanical cleaning, which can pollute the air and harm health. It also does not produce a large volume of waste liquid like some chemical cleaning methods, which can contaminate rivers, soil, and water quality. The water jet cleaning with pure water as the medium is odorless, tasteless, and non-toxic. After atomization, it can also reduce the dust concentration in the work area, lowering atmospheric dust from 80mg/m³ with other methods to below the national safety standards. Therefore, it does not cause any pollution.


Pipe Scale

(1) Categorized by chemical composition, they include carbonate scale, sulfate scale, silicate scale, and mixed scale, among others. The main components of carbonate scale are calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate; the main components of sulfate scale and silicate scale are calcium sulfate and silicate compounds, respectively.

(2) Categorized by physical properties, there are two types: scale that is firmly adhered to the pot shell and pipe walls, and sediment that is loosely textured and easily detached.
Lime scale primarily forms due to the salts like calcium and magnesium in the boiler feed water, which precipitate and adhere to the metal surface upon heating. Lime scale has a very low thermal conductivity, approximately 2 to 5 times that of ordinary steel. When lime scale accumulates on the boiler's heating surface, it severely degrades heat transfer efficiency, affecting the boiler's performance; it can also easily damage metal materials due to localized overheating, potentially leading to pipe explosion accidents; it accelerates galvanic corrosion, causing pipeline lime scale corrosion, and speeds up the deterioration of the heating surface. Once lime scale forms, it should be promptly removed using mechanical or chemical methods.
