Chemical Cleaning and Scaling Removal Process

Recirculating Closed Loop Cleaning

Recirculating cleaning utilizes two original parallel deslagging pipelines to form a loop, creating a circulation system with the cleaning pump station. A solution of a certain concentration of acidity is added, and it circulates within the sludge water pipes for cleaning. As the acid cleaning reaches a certain level, the solution is continuously replenished. For short-distance single sludge water pipelines, if conditions permit, a temporary pipeline can be laid to form a recirculation loop for cleaning. This process must be carried out during shutdown and is complex, with higher costs.

Open road cleaning

No two gray pipes can form a loop during cleaning; only a single gray pipe can be used for open-loop cleaning. The method involves connecting one end of the gray pipe to the cleaning unit, continuously preparing a certain concentration of cleaning solution in the mixing tank, and then continuously or intermittently injecting it into the gray pipe. This process requires adding cleaning equipment during shutdown, which increases costs.

Continuous cleaning without shutdown

The process involves continuously injecting a certain amount of acidic solution while simultaneously introducing a specific quantity of ash conveying pipeline cleaning inhibitor and pipeline cleaning descaler. This is an open circuit cleaning method. The main function of the cleaning aids is to promote the reaction between the acidic solution and ash deposits at a certain concentration and flow rate, while also enhancing its solubility in water and reducing the formation of air blockages, ensuring the quality of ash pipe cleaning.

The procedure is as follows: Before cleaning, first estimate the required acid amount based on the total scale in the pipeline. Then, calculate the acid addition rate and the flow rate of the descaling agent and pipeline cleaning agent according to the sludge water flow rate and acidity. During cleaning, take a sample at the sampling point at the front of the sludge pipe every 30 minutes to test the acidity and strictly control it by adjusting the acid flow rate. In the later stage of cleaning, take a sample at the end of the sludge pipe every 15 minutes to test the pH value. When the pH value reaches a certain level and remains unchanged for 30 minutes, the cleaning can be deemed complete.

2. High-pressure water jet cleaning equipment
High-pressure water jet cleaning offers advantages such as high efficiency, low cost, non-damaging to workpieces, environmental friendliness, ease of operation, and safety.
High-pressure water technology boasts the following advantages.

(1) Excellent Cleaning Quality - The high-pressure water jet cleaning of pipelines and the internal holes of heat exchangers can completely remove scale and blockages inside the pipes, revealing the metal itself. With its immense energy and ultra-sonic speed, the high-pressure water jet is fully capable of breaking down hard scale and blockages, but has no destructive effect on metal.

High-pressure water cleaning will not damage the base material being cleaned, as the pressure is less than the compressive strength grade of the metal.

(2) Fast Cleaning Speed: Due to the combined crushing effects of water jet scouring, wedging, shearing, and grinding, scale can be quickly broken and removed, making the cleaning process several to ten times faster than traditional chemical methods, sandblasting, ball-shot peening, simple mechanical, and manual methods.

Components cleaned with high-pressure water jetting do not require secondary cleaning; however, after chemical cleaning, the surface chemicals must be rinsed off with clear water.

(3) No Environmental Pollution - As high-pressure water jet cleaning uses pure water as the medium, it does not produce a large amount of dust like sandblasting, shot blasting, or simple mechanical cleaning, which can pollute the air and harm health. It also does not generate a large volume of waste liquid like some chemical cleaning methods, which can contaminate rivers, soil, and water quality. The water jet cleaning using pure water is odorless, tasteless, and non-toxic. After atomization, it can also reduce the dust concentration in the work area, lowering atmospheric dust from 80mg/m³ with other methods to below the national safety standards, thus causing no pollution.

3. Pipe Scale

(1) Classified by chemical composition, they can be categorized into carbonate scale, sulfate scale, silicate scale, and mixed scale, etc. The main components of carbonate scale are calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate; the main components of sulfate scale and silicate scale are calcium sulfate and silicate compounds, respectively; mixed scale is usually a mixture of the above three types of scales.

(2) Categorized by physical properties, there are two types: scale that is firmly adhered to the pot shell and pipe walls, and sediment that is loosely textured and easily detached.
Lime scale primarily forms due to the salts of calcium and magnesium in the boiler feed water that precipitate and adhere to the metal surface upon heating. Lime scale has a very low thermal conductivity, approximately 2 to 5 times that of ordinary steel. When lime scale accumulates on the boiler's heating surface, it significantly worsens the heat transfer efficiency and affects the boiler's performance; it can also easily damage metal materials due to localized overheating, potentially leading to pipe explosion accidents; it accelerates galvanic corrosion, causing pipeline lime scale corrosion, and speeding up the deterioration of the heating surface. Once lime scale forms, it should be promptly removed using mechanical or chemical methods.
