Chemical Cleaning Scale Removal Process

Recirculating Closed Circuit Cleaning

Circulating cleaning involves utilizing two existing parallel deslagging pipelines to form a circuit, which is connected to a cleaning pump station to create a recirculation system. A certain concentration of acidic solution is added, and the slurry is circulated through the pipeline for cleaning. As the acidic washing decreases to a certain level, more acid solution is continuously added. For short-distance single slurry pipelines, if conditions permit, a temporary pipeline can be installed to form a recirculation circuit for cleaning. This process must be carried out during shutdown and is complex and costly.

Preliminary Cleaning

No two ash pipes should form a loop during cleaning; only a single ash pipe should be used for open circuit cleaning. The method involves connecting one end of the ash pipe to the cleaning unit, continuously preparing a specific concentration of cleaning solution in the dosing tank, and then continuously or intermittently injecting it into the ash pipe. This process requires the addition of cleaning equipment during shutdown, which increases costs.

Continuous operation cleaning

The process involves continuously injecting a certain amount of acidic solution while the ash pipe is operating normally without interruption, simultaneously adding a certain quantity of ash pipe operation cleaning inhibitor and pipeline descaling agent, and performing an open-loop cleaning. The main function of the cleaning aid is to promote the reaction between the acidic solution and the ash scale at a certain concentration and flow rate, while also increasing its solubility in water and reducing the occurrence of air blockages, ensuring the quality of ash pipe cleaning.

The procedure is as follows: Before cleaning, estimate the required acid quantity based on the total scale in the pipeline. Then, calculate the acid addition rate and the flow rate of the descaling agent and pipeline cleaning agent by considering the sludge water flow rate and acidity. During cleaning, take a sample at the front end of the sludge pipe every 30 minutes to test the acidity and strictly control it by adjusting the acid flow rate. In the later stage of cleaning, take a sample at the end of the sludge pipe every 15 minutes to test the pH value. When the pH value reaches a certain level and remains unchanged for 30 minutes, the cleaning can be considered complete.

2. High-pressure water jet cleaning equipment
High-pressure water jet cleaning is efficient, cost-effective, non-damaging to workpieces, environmentally friendly, easy to operate, and safe.
The advantages of high-pressure water technology include:

(1) Excellent Cleaning Quality: The high-pressure water jet cleaning of pipeline and heat exchanger bores can completely remove scale and blockages inside, revealing the metal substrate. With immense energy and moving at supersonic speeds, the high-pressure water jet is fully capable of destroying hard scale and blockages without causing any damage to the metal.

Since the pressure of high-pressure water is less than the compressive strength grade of metal, high-pressure cleaning will not damage the base being cleaned.

(2) Fast Cleaning Speed: Due to the combined effects of jet washing, wedge splitting, shearing, and grinding, scale can be quickly broken and removed, which is several to ten times faster than traditional chemical methods, sandblasting and shot peening techniques, simple mechanical, and manual cleaning methods.

Additionally, parts cleaned with high-pressure water jetting do not require secondary cleaning; however, after chemical cleaning, the surface must be rinsed with clean water.

(3) No Environmental Pollution: Since high-pressure water jet cleaning uses pure water as the medium, it does not produce a large amount of dust like sandblasting, grit-blasting, or simple mechanical cleaning, which can pollute the atmosphere and harm health. It also does not generate large amounts of waste liquid like some chemical cleaning methods, which can contaminate rivers, soil, and water quality. The water jet cleaning using pure water is odorless, tasteless, and non-toxic. After atomizing the spray, it can also reduce the dust concentration in the work area, lowering atmospheric dust from 80mg/m³ with other methods to below the national safety standards, thus causing no pollution.


3. Pipe Scale

(1) Classified by chemical composition, they include carbonate scale, sulfate scale, silicate scale, and mixed scale. The main components of carbonate scale are calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate; the main components of sulfate scale and silicate scale are calcium sulfate and silicate compounds, respectively.

(2) Categorized by physical properties, there are two types: water scale that is firmly adhered to the pot shell and pipe walls, and sediment that is loosely textured and easily detached.
Lime scale primarily forms due to the salts like calcium and magnesium in the boiler feed water precipitating and adhering to the metal surface upon heating. Lime scale has a very low thermal conductivity, approximately 2 to 5 times less than that of ordinary steel. When lime scale accumulates on the boiler's heat transfer surface, it significantly worsens the heat transfer efficiency and affects the boiler's performance; it can also easily cause metal materials to burn due to local overheating, potentially leading to tube bursting accidents; it accelerates galvanic corrosion, causing pipeline lime scale corrosion, and speeding up the damage to the heat transfer surface. Once lime scale forms, it should be promptly removed using mechanical or chemical methods.
