Chemical Cleaning Scale Removal Process

Recirculating closed-loop cleaning

Recirculating cleaning utilizes two existing parallel descaling pipelines to form a loop, creating a recirculation system with the cleaning pump station. It involves adding a certain concentration of acidic solution, which circulates within the sludge water pipes for cleaning. As the acid cleaning reaches a certain level, the acidic solution is continuously replenished. For short-distance single sludge water pipelines, if conditions permit, a temporary pipeline can be laid to form a recirculation loop for cleaning. This process must be carried out during shutdown, is complex, and has higher costs.

Breakthrough Cleaning

During cleaning, no two ash pipes should form a loop; only single-pipe open-loop cleaning is allowed. The method involves connecting one end of the ash pipe to the cleaning unit and continuously preparing a specific concentration of cleaning solution in the mixture tank, then injecting it into the ash pipe continuously or intermittently. This process requires additional cleaning equipment during shutdown, resulting in higher costs.

Continuous Cleaning

The process involves continuously injecting a certain amount of acidic solution while the ash pipe is operating normally and not in transit. Simultaneously, a specific quantity of ash-pipe running cleaning inhibitor and pipeline descaling agent is added for open-circuit cleaning. The primary function of the cleaning additive is to promote the reaction between the acidic solution and ash deposits at a certain concentration and flow rate, while also enhancing its solubility in water and reducing the occurrence of air blockages, ensuring the quality of ash-pipe cleaning.

The procedure is as follows: Prior to cleaning, estimate the required acid quantity based on the total scale in the pipeline. Then, calculate the acid addition rate and the flow rate of the sludge pipeline cleaning inhibitor and pipeline descaler based on the sludge flow rate and acidity. During cleaning, take a sample at the front end of the sludge pipeline every 30 minutes to test the acidity and strictly control it by adjusting the acid flow rate. In the later stage of cleaning, take a sample at the end of the sludge pipeline every 15 minutes to test the pH value. When the pH value reaches a certain level and remains unchanged for 30 minutes, the cleaning can be deemed complete.

2. High-pressure water jet cleaning machinery
High-pressure water jet cleaning offers advantages such as high efficiency, low cost, non-damaging to workpieces, environmental protection, ease of operation, and safety.
High-pressure water technology boasts the following advantages.

(1) High-quality cleaning - The high-pressure water jet cleaning for pipes and the inner holes of heat exchangers can completely remove scale and blockages inside the pipes, revealing the metal substrate. The high-pressure water jet, with its immense energy and supersonic speed, is capable of fully destroying hard scale and blockages without causing any damage to the metal.

Since the pressure of high-pressure water is less than the pressure resistance grade of metal, high-pressure cleaning will not damage the base material being cleaned.

(2) Fast Cleaning Speed: Due to the combined crushing effects of water jet washing, wedging, shearing, and abrasion, scale can be quickly broken and removed, which is several to ten times faster than traditional chemical methods, sandblasting, ball-shot peening, simple mechanical, and manual cleaning methods.

Components cleaned with high-pressure water jet do not require secondary cleaning; however, those chemically cleaned need to be washed with clear water to remove the surface residue.

(3) No Environmental Pollution: As high-pressure water jet cleaning uses pure water as the medium, it does not produce a large amount of dust like sandblasting, shot blasting, or simple mechanical cleaning, which can pollute the air and harm health. It also does not generate a significant amount of waste liquid like some chemical cleaning methods, which can contaminate rivers, soil, and water quality. The water jet cleaning with pure water is odorless, tasteless, and non-toxic. After atomization, it can also reduce the dust concentration in the work area, lowering atmospheric dust levels from 80mg/m³ with other methods to below the national safety standards, thus causing no pollution.


3. Pipe Scale

(1) Classified by chemical composition, it includes carbonate scale, sulfate scale, silicate scale, and mixed scale, among others. The main components of carbonate scale are calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate; the main components of sulfate scale and silicate scale are calcium sulfate and silicate compounds, respectively.

(2) Categorized by physical properties, there are two types: a hard scale that firmly adheres to the pot shell and tube walls, and a loose sediment that is easy to detach.
Lime scale primarily forms due to the salts of calcium and magnesium present in the boiler feedwater, which precipitate and adhere to the metal surface upon heating. Lime scale has a very low thermal conductivity, approximately 2 to 5 times that of ordinary steel. When lime scale accumulates on the boiler's heat transfer surface, it significantly worsens heat transfer efficiency and affects the boiler's performance; it can easily cause metal materials to burn due to local overheating, even leading to pipe burst accidents; it also accelerates galvanic corrosion, causing pipeline lime scale corrosion and speeding up the damage to the heat transfer surface. Once lime scale forms, it should be promptly removed using mechanical or chemical methods.
