Introduction and Uses of CB Certification
The CB System (IEC System for Electrical Product Conformity Testing and Certification) is an international system operated by the IECEE. Member certification bodies of the IECEE conduct safety performance tests on electrical products based on IEC standards, and their test results, i.e., CB Test Reports and CB Test Certificates, are mutually recognized across the member countries of the IECEE.
The primary goal of the CB system is to promote international trade, achieving this by advancing the harmonization and coordination of national and international standards, as well as fostering collaboration among product certification bodies, thereby bringing manufacturers closer to the ideal "one test, multiple applications" objective.
The CB Recognition Program can effectively save time and costs associated with redundant testing. Generally, manufacturers can easily convert CB test reports and certificates issued by institutions, along with the national differences of the importing country, into locally recognized test reports. In principle, only a small additional fee is required to apply for local certification.
The CB Report is a standardized document that lists the requirements of relevant IEC standards in a detailed checklist format. It provides clear and unambiguous results of all tests, measurements, verifications, inspections, and evaluations required. The report also includes photographs, circuit diagrams, images, and product descriptions. According to the CB system rules, the CB Test Certificate is valid only when provided together with the CB Test Report.
