Chemical Cleaning Scale Removal Process
Recirculating Closed Loop Cleaning
Recirculating cleaning utilizes two original parallel ash pipelines to form a loop, which, together with the cleaning pump station, creates a recirculation system. A solution of a certain acidity concentration is added, and it circulates through the ash water pipes for cleaning. As the acid washing reaches a certain level, acid is continuously replenished. For short-distance single ash water pipelines, if conditions permit, a temporary pipeline can be laid to form a recirculation loop for cleaning. This process must be carried out during shutdown and is complex, with higher costs.
Open Road Cleaning
No two gray pipes should form a loop during cleaning; only a single gray pipe should be used for open circuit cleaning. The method involves connecting one end of the gray pipe to the cleaning unit, continuously preparing a certain concentration of cleaning solution in the blending tank, and then continuously or intermittently injecting it into the gray pipe. This process requires adding cleaning equipment during shutdown, which increases costs.
Continuous Operation Cleaning
This process involves continuously injecting a certain amount of acidic solution while the ash pipe is operating normally without interruption. Simultaneously, a specific quantity of ash-pipe operating cleaning inhibitor and pipeline cleaning descaler is added for open-circuit cleaning. The primary function of the cleaning aids is to promote the reaction between the acidic solution and the ash scale at a certain concentration and flow rate, while also increasing its solubility in water, reducing the occurrence of air blockages, and ensuring the quality of ash-pipe cleaning.
The procedure is as follows: Prior to cleaning, estimate the required acid quantity based on the total scale in the pipeline. Then, calculate the acid addition rate and the flow rate of the descaling agent and pipeline cleaning agent by considering the sludge water flow rate and acidity. During cleaning, collect a sample at the front end of the sludge pipe every 30 minutes to test the acidity, and strictly control it by adjusting the acid flow rate. In the later stage of cleaning, collect a sample at the end of the sludge pipe every 15 minutes to test the pH value. When the pH value reaches a certain level and remains unchanged for 30 minutes, the cleaning can be deemed complete.
2. High-pressure water cleaning machinery:
High-pressure water jet cleaning offers advantages such as high efficiency, low cost, non-damaging to workpieces, non-polluting to the environment, ease of operation, and safety.
Advantages of high-pressure water technology include:
(1) High-quality Cleaning: During high-pressure water jet cleaning of pipes and the inner holes of heat exchangers, all scaling and blockages inside the pipes can be thoroughly removed, revealing the metal substrate. The high-pressure water jet, with its immense energy and ultra-sonic movement, is capable of completely destroying tough scaling and blockages, yet has no damaging effect on metal.
Since the pressure of high-pressure water is less than the compressive strength grade of metal, high-pressure cleaning will not damage the surface being cleaned.
(2) Fast Cleaning Speed: Due to the combined effects of water jet scouring, splitting, shearing, and abrasive cutting, scale can be quickly broken and removed, making the cleaning speed several to ten times faster than traditional chemical methods, sandblasting, simple mechanical, and manual methods.
Additionally, parts cleaned with high-pressure water jetting do not require secondary cleaning; however, after chemical cleaning, the surface chemical must be rinsed off with clean water.
(3) Non-environmental Pollution: Since high-pressure water jet cleaning uses pure water as the medium, it does not generate a large amount of dust like sandblasting, shot blasting, or simple mechanical cleaning, which can pollute the air and harm health. It also does not produce a significant amount of waste liquid like some chemical cleaning methods, which can contaminate rivers, soil, and water quality. The water jet cleaning with pure water as the medium is odorless, tasteless, and non-toxic. After atomizing the spray, it can also reduce the dust concentration in the working area, lowering atmospheric dust from 80mg/m³ with other methods to below the national safety standards, thus causing no pollution.

3. Pipe Scale
(1) Classified by chemical composition, they can be categorized into carbonate scale, sulfate scale, silicate scale, and mixed scale, etc. The main components of carbonate scale are calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate; the main components of sulfate scale and silicate scale are calcium sulfate and silicate compounds, respectively.
(2) Classified by physical properties, there are two types: a hard scale that firmly adheres to the pot shell and pipe walls, and a loose sediment that is easy to dislodge.
Scale is primarily formed when salts like calcium and magnesium in the boiler feedwater precipitate and adhere to the metal surface upon heating. The thermal conductivity of scale is very low, approximately 2 to 5 times that of ordinary steel. Scale on the boiler's heating surface significantly worsens heat transfer efficiency and affects the boiler's performance; it can easily cause metal materials to burn due to localized overheating, even leading to pipe explosion accidents; it also accelerates galvanic corrosion, causing pipeline scale corrosion and speeding up the damage to the heating surface. Once scale forms, it should be promptly removed using mechanical or chemical methods.
