Chemical Cleaning Scale Removal Process

Recirculating Closed Loop Cleaning

Recirculation cleaning utilizes two original parallel ash discharge pipelines to form a loop, creating a circulating system with the cleaning pump station. A solution of a certain acidity concentration is added, and it circulates through the ash water pipes for cleaning. As the acid cleaning reaches a certain level, the acid solution is continuously replenished. For short-distance single ash water pipelines, if conditions permit, a temporary pipeline can be laid to form a circulating loop for cleaning. This process must be carried out while the system is shut down and is complex, with higher costs.

Preliminary Cleaning

During cleaning, no two ash pipes should form a loop; only a single ash pipe should be used for open-loop cleaning. The method involves connecting one end of the ash pipe to the cleaning unit and continuously preparing a certain concentration of cleaning solution in the liquid storage tank, then continuously or intermittently injecting it into the ash pipe. This process requires the addition of cleaning equipment during shutdown, resulting in higher costs.

Continuous Cleaning Without Shutdown

The process involves continuously injecting a specific quantity of acid solution while also introducing a certain amount of slurry pipe operation cleaning inhibitor and pipeline descaler, performing open-circuit cleaning. The main function of the cleaning aid is to promote the reaction between the acid solution and scale in a solution with a specific concentration and flow rate, while also enhancing its solubility in water, reducing air blockage, and ensuring the quality of slurry pipe cleaning.

The procedure is as follows: Before cleaning, first estimate the required acid amount based on the total scale in the pipeline. Then, calculate the acid addition rate and the flow rate of the sludge pipe operation by considering the gray water flow rate and acidity. During cleaning, take a sample at the front end of the sludge pipe every 30 minutes to test the acidity and strictly control it by adjusting the acid flow rate. In the later stage of cleaning, take a sample at the end of the sludge pipe every 15 minutes to test the pH value. When the pH value reaches a certain level and remains unchanged for 30 minutes, the cleaning can be deemed complete.


2. High-pressure water jet cleaning machinery
High-pressure water jet cleaning offers advantages such as high efficiency, low cost, non-damaging to workpieces, environmental friendliness, ease of operation, and safety.
High-pressure water technology boasts the following advantages.

(1) Excellent Cleaning Quality: The high-pressure water jet cleaning of pipes and heat exchanger bores effectively removes all scale and blockages inside, revealing the metal surface. With its immense energy and supersonic speed, the high-pressure water jet is capable of completely destroying tough scale and blockages without causing any damage to the metal.

High-pressure water cleaning will not damage the base material being cleaned, as the pressure is less than the tensile strength grade of the metal.

(2) Fast Cleaning Speed: Due to the combined effects of water jet scouring, wedging, shearing, and abrasion, scaling can be quickly broken and removed, several to ten times faster than traditional chemical methods, sandblasting and shot peening techniques, simple mechanical, and manual cleaning methods.

Components cleaned with high-pressure water jetting do not require secondary cleaning; however, after chemical cleaning, the surface chemical must be rinsed off with clear water.

(3) Non-environmental pollution: Since high-pressure water jet cleaning uses pure water as the medium, it does not generate a large amount of dust like sandblasting, shot blasting, or simple mechanical cleaning, which can pollute the atmosphere and harm health. It also does not produce a large amount of waste liquid like some chemical cleaning methods, which can contaminate rivers, soil, and water quality. The water jet cleaning with pure water as the medium is odorless, tasteless, and non-toxic. After atomization, the emitted jet can also reduce the dust concentration in the working area, lowering atmospheric dust from 80mg/m³ using other methods to below the national safety standards, thus causing no pollution.

Pipe Scale

(1) Classified by chemical composition, it can be categorized into carbonate scale, sulfate scale, silicate scale, and mixed scale, etc. The main components of carbonate scale are calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate; the main components of sulfate scale and silicate scale are calcium sulfate and silicate compounds, respectively.

(2) Categorized by physical properties, there are two types: scale that is firmly adhered to the pot shell and tube walls, and sediment that is loosely textured and easily detachable.
Lime scale primarily forms due to the salts of calcium and magnesium present in the boiler feed water, which precipitate and adhere to the metal surface upon heating. Lime scale has a very low thermal conductivity, around 2 to 5 times that of ordinary steel. When lime scale accumulates on the boiler's heating surface, it significantly worsens the heat transfer efficiency and affects the boiler's performance; it can easily cause metal materials to burn due to local overheating, potentially leading to pipe explosion accidents; it also accelerates galvanic corrosion, causing pipeline lime scale corrosion and speeding up the damage to the heating surface. Once lime scale forms, it should be promptly removed using mechanical or chemical methods.
