Chemical Cleaning Scale Removal Process

Recirculating Closed Circuit Cleaning

Recirculating cleaning utilizes two existing parallel ash removal pipelines to form a loop, creating a recirculation system with the cleaning pump station. A solution of a certain concentration of acidity is added, which circulates within the ash water pipeline for cleaning. As the acid washing reaches a certain level, the solution is continuously replenished with acid. For short-distance single ash water pipelines, if conditions permit, a temporary pipeline can be laid to form a recirculation loop for cleaning. This process must be carried out during shutdown and is complex and costly.

Open channel cleaning

No two ash pipes should form a loop during cleaning; only single-pipe open circuit cleaning is allowed. The method involves connecting one end of the ash pipe to the cleaning unit, continuously preparing a specific concentration of cleaning solution in the mixing tank, and then injecting it into the ash pipe continuously or intermittently. This process requires additional cleaning equipment during shutdown, which increases costs.

Continuous cleaning without downtime

The process involves continuously injecting a specific amount of acidic solution while also introducing a certain quantity of running ash pipe cleaning inhibitor and pipeline descaler. This is done through open-loop cleaning. The primary function of the cleaning aids is to facilitate the reaction between the acidic solution and ash deposits at a certain concentration and flow rate, while also enhancing its solubility in water, reducing air blockages, and ensuring the quality of ash pipe cleaning.

The procedure is as follows: Prior to cleaning, estimate the required acid amount based on the total scale in the pipeline, then calculate the acid addition rate and ash flow rate according to the sludge water flow and acidity. During cleaning, take samples at the front end of the ash pipe every 30 minutes to test the acidity and strictly control it by adjusting the acid flow rate. In the later stage of cleaning, take samples at the end of the ash pipe every 15 minutes to test the pH value. When the pH value reaches a certain level and remains unchanged for 30 minutes, the cleaning process can be deemed complete.

2. High-pressure water cleaning machinery:
High-pressure water jet cleaning offers advantages such as high efficiency, low cost, non-damaging to workpieces, environmental friendliness, ease of operation, and safety.
Advantages of high-pressure water technology include:

(1) High-quality cleaning: During high-pressure water jet cleaning of pipelines and heat exchanger bores, all scaling and blockages within the pipes can be thoroughly removed, revealing the metal substrate. The high-pressure water jet, with its immense energy and supersonic movement, is fully capable of destroying tough scaling and blockages, yet it exerts no damage on the metal.

The high-pressure water pressure is less than the compressive strength grade of the metal, so high-pressure cleaning will not damage the substrate being cleaned.

(2) Fast Cleaning Speed: Due to the combined effects of jet washing, wedge splitting, shearing, and grinding, scaling can be quickly broken and removed, making the cleaning speed several to ten times faster than traditional chemical methods, sandblasting, simple mechanical, and manual methods.

Components cleaned with high-pressure water jetting do not require secondary cleaning; however, after chemical cleaning, the surface must be rinsed with clear water.

(3) No Environmental Pollution: Since high-pressure water jet cleaning uses pure water as the medium, it does not generate a large amount of dust like sandblasting, grit-blasting, or simple mechanical cleaning, which can pollute the atmosphere and harm health. It also does not produce a large volume of waste liquid like some chemical cleaning methods, which can contaminate rivers, soil, and water quality. The water jet cleaning using pure water is odorless, tasteless, and non-toxic. After atomization, it can also reduce the dust concentration in the work area, lowering atmospheric dust from 80mg/m³ using other methods to below the national safety standards, thus causing no pollution.


Pipe Scale

(1) Classified by chemical composition, it can be divided into carbonate scale, sulfate scale, silicate scale, and mixed scale, etc. The main components of carbonate scale are calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate; the main components of sulfate scale and silicate scale are calcium sulfate and silicate compounds, respectively.

(2) Categorized by physical properties, there are two types: water scale that is firmly adhered to the pot shell and tube wall, and sediment that is loosely textured and easy to detach.
Lime scale primarily forms due to the salts of calcium and magnesium present in the boiler feedwater, which precipitate and adhere to the metal surface upon heating. Lime scale has a very low thermal conductivity, approximately 2 to 5 times less than that of ordinary steel. When lime scale accumulates on the boiler's heat transfer surface, it significantly worsens the heat transfer efficiency, affecting the boiler's performance; it can easily cause metal materials to burn due to local overheating, even leading to pipe explosion accidents; it accelerates galvanic corrosion, causing pipeline lime scale corrosion, and speeding up the damage to the heat transfer surface. Once lime scale forms, it should be promptly removed using either mechanical or chemical methods.
