Chemical Cleaning Scale Removal Process
Recirculating Closed Loop Cleaning
Recirculating cleaning utilizes two existing parallel ash piping lines to form a loop, creating a recirculation system with the cleaning pump station. A solution of a certain acidity concentration is added, which circulates through the ash water pipes for cleaning. As the acid washing reaches a certain level, the solution is continuously replenished with acid. For short-distance single ash water pipelines, if conditions permit, a temporary pipeline can be laid to form a recirculation loop for cleaning. This process must be carried out while the system is shut down, and it is complex and costly.
Breakbulk Cleaning
No two gray pipes can form a loop during cleaning; only a single gray pipe should be used for open circuit cleaning. The method involves connecting one end of the gray pipe to the cleaning unit, continuously preparing a certain concentration of cleaning solution in the mixing tank, and then injecting it into the gray pipe continuously or intermittently. This process requires adding cleaning equipment while the system is shut down, resulting in higher costs.
Continuous Operation Cleaning
The process involves continuously injecting a certain amount of acidic solution while the ash pipe is operating normally without interruption, simultaneously adding a specific quantity of ash-pipe running cleaning inhibitor and pipeline descaling agent. This is an open-circuit cleaning method. The primary function of the cleaning aids is to promote the reaction between the acidic solution and the ash scale at a certain concentration and flow rate, while also increasing its solubility in water and reducing the formation of air blockages, ensuring the quality of ash-pipe cleaning.
The procedure is as follows: Prior to cleaning, estimate the required acid quantity based on the total scale in the pipeline. Then, calculate the acid addition rate and the flow rate for the injection of corrosion inhibitors and pipeline cleaning stripper based on the sludge water flow rate and acidity. During cleaning, take samples at the front sampling point of the sludge pipe every 30 minutes to test the acidity and strictly control it by adjusting the acid flow rate. In the later stage of cleaning, take samples at the end of the sludge pipe every 15 minutes to test the pH value. When the pH value reaches a certain level and remains unchanged for 30 minutes, the cleaning can be deemed complete.
2. High-pressure water jet cleaning equipment
High-pressure water jet cleaning offers advantages such as high efficiency, low cost, non-damaging to workpieces, environmental friendliness, ease of operation, and safety.
High-pressure water technology boasts the following advantages.
(1) Excellent Cleaning Quality: The high-pressure water jet cleaning for pipes and the inner holes of heat exchangers can thoroughly remove scale and obstructions from within the pipes, revealing the metal substrate. With its immense energy and ultra-sonic speed, the high-pressure water jet is fully capable of destroying stubborn scale and obstructions without causing any damage to the metal.
The high-pressure water pressure is less than the compressive strength grade of metal, so high-pressure cleaning will not damage the substrate being cleaned.

(2) Fast Cleaning Speed: Due to the combined effects of water jet washing, wedge splitting, shearing, and grinding, scale can be quickly broken and removed, making the cleaning process several to tens of times faster than traditional chemical methods, sandblasting and shot peening, simple mechanical, and manual methods.
Additionally, parts cleaned with high-pressure water jetting do not require secondary cleaning; whereas, after chemical cleaning, the surface chemicals must be rinsed off with clean water.

Pipe Scale
(1) Categorized by chemical composition, they include carbonate scale, sulfate scale, silicate scale, and mixed scale. The primary components of carbonate scale are calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate; sulfate scale and silicate scale are mainly composed of calcium sulfate and silicate compounds, respectively. Mixed scale is typically a mixture of the aforementioned three types.

(2) Classified by physical properties, there are two types: scale that firmly adheres to the pot shell and pipe walls, and sludge that is loosely textured and easily dislodged.
Lime scale primarily forms due to the salts of calcium and magnesium in the boiler feed water, which precipitate and adhere to the metal surface upon heating. Lime scale has a very low thermal conductivity, approximately 2 to 5 times that of ordinary steel. When lime scale accumulates on the boiler's heat transfer surface, it significantly worsens the heat transfer efficiency and affects the boiler's performance; it can also easily damage metal materials due to local overheating, potentially leading to pipe explosion accidents; it accelerates galvanic corrosion, causing pipeline lime scale corrosion, and speeding up the deterioration of the heat transfer surface. Once lime scale forms, it should be promptly removed using mechanical or chemical methods.
