Chemical Cleaning Scale Removal Process

Recirculating Closed Circuit Cleaning

Recirculating cleaning utilizes two existing parallel ash pipelines to form a loop, creating a recirculation system with the cleaning pump station. A certain concentration of acidic solution is added, which circulates through the ash water pipes for cleaning. As the acid washing reaches a certain level, the acidic solution is continuously replenished. For short-distance single ash water pipelines, if conditions permit, a temporary pipeline can be laid to form a recirculation loop for cleaning. This process must be carried out while the system is shut down, and it is complex and costly.

Breakthrough Cleaning

No two ash pipes should form a loop during cleaning; only a single ash pipe should be used for open-circuit cleaning. The method involves connecting one end of the ash pipe to the cleaning device, continuously preparing a specific concentration of cleaning solution in the solution tank, and then injecting it into the ash pipe continuously or intermittently. This process requires adding cleaning equipment during shutdown, which increases costs.

Continuous operation cleaning

The process involves continuously injecting a certain amount of acidic solution while the ash pipeline is operating normally without interruption. Simultaneously, a certain quantity of ash pipeline operation cleaning inhibitor and pipeline cleaning descaler is added for open-loop cleaning. The primary function of the cleaning aid is to promote the reaction between the acidic solution and the ash scale at a certain concentration and flow rate, while also increasing its solubility in water, reducing the occurrence of airlock, and ensuring the quality of ash pipeline cleaning.

Operation method: Before cleaning, first estimate the required acid amount based on the total scale in the pipeline. Then, calculate the acid addition rate and ash conveying pipeline operation flow rate for corrosion inhibitors and pipeline cleaning detaching agents based on the sludge water flow rate and acidity. During cleaning, take a sample at the front sampling point of the ash pipeline every 30 minutes to test the acidity and strictly control the acidity by adjusting the acid flow rate. In the later stage of cleaning, take a sample at the end of the ash pipeline every 15 minutes to test the pH value. When the pH value reaches a certain level and remains unchanged for 30 minutes, the cleaning can be deemed completed.

2. High-pressure water jet cleaning equipment
High-pressure water jet cleaning offers advantages such as high efficiency, low cost, non-damaging to workpieces, environmental-friendly, easy operation, and safety.
High-pressure water technology boasts the following advantages.

(1) Excellent Cleaning Quality - The high-pressure water jet cleaning of pipe and heat exchanger bores can thoroughly remove scale and blockages from inside the pipes, revealing the metal surface. The high-pressure water jet, with its immense energy and supersonic speed, can completely break down hard scale and blockages without causing any damage to the metal.

Since the pressure of high-pressure water is less than the compressive strength grade of metal, high-pressure cleaning will not damage the base being cleaned.

(2) Fast Cleaning Speed: Due to the combined action of water jet washing, wedging, shearing, and abrasion, scaling can be quickly broken and removed, making the cleaning process several to ten times faster than traditional chemical methods, sandblasting, simple mechanical, and manual methods.

Parts cleaned with high-pressure water jetting do not require secondary cleaning; however, after chemical cleaning, the surface must be washed with clean water.

(3) No Environmental Pollution: Since high-pressure water jet cleaning uses pure water as the medium, it does not generate a large amount of dust like sandblasting, shot blasting, or simple mechanical cleaning, which can pollute the atmosphere and harm health. It also does not produce a large volume of waste liquid like some chemical cleaning methods, which can contaminate rivers, soil, and water quality. The water jet cleaning with pure water as the medium is odorless, tasteless, and non-toxic. After atomization, the spray can also reduce the dust concentration in the work area, lowering atmospheric dust levels from 80mg/m³ with other methods to below the national safety standards, thus causing no pollution.


3. Pipe Scale

(1) Classified by chemical composition, they can be categorized into carbonate scale, sulfate scale, silicate scale, and mixed scale. The main components of carbonate scale are calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate; the main components of sulfate scale and silicate scale are calcium sulfate and silicate compounds, respectively.

(2) Categorized by physical properties, there are two types: scale that firmly adheres to the pot shell and tube walls, and sediment that is loosely textured and easily detachable.
Scale primarily forms due to the salts of calcium, magnesium, and others in the boiler feed water being precipitated and adhering to the metal surface upon heating. The thermal conductivity of scale is very low, around 2 to 5 times that of ordinary steel. When scale accumulates on the boiler's heat transfer surface, it significantly worsens the heat transfer efficiency and affects the boiler's performance; it can easily cause metal materials to burn due to localized overheating, even leading to tube explosion accidents; it accelerates galvanic corrosion, causing pipeline scale corrosion, and speeding up the deterioration of the heat transfer surface. Once scale forms, it should be promptly removed using mechanical or chemical methods.
