Chemical Cleaning Scale Removal Process

Recirculating Closed Loop Cleaning

Recirculating cleaning utilizes two existing parallel deslagging pipelines to form a loop, creating a recirculation system with the cleaning pump station. A certain concentration of acidic solution is added, which circulates within the sludge water pipeline for cleaning. As the acid cleaning decreases to a certain level, the solution is continuously replenished. For short-distance single sludge water pipelines, if conditions permit, a temporary pipeline can be laid to form a recirculation loop for cleaning. This process must be carried out while the system is shut down, and it is complex and costly.

Open road cleaning

No two gray pipes should form a loop during cleaning; only single-pipe open circuit cleaning is allowed. The method involves connecting one end of the gray pipe to the cleaning unit and continuously preparing a specific concentration of cleaning solution in the mixing tank, then injecting it into the gray pipe continuously or intermittently. This process requires additional cleaning equipment during shutdown, which increases costs.

Non-stop cleaning

The process involves continuously injecting a certain amount of acidic solution while the ash pipe is operating normally and continuously conveying ash. At the same time, a certain amount of ash pipe running cleaning inhibitor and pipeline descaling agent are added for open-circuit cleaning. The main function of the cleaning additive is to promote the reaction between the acidic solution and the ash scale at a certain concentration and flow rate, while increasing its solubility in water and reducing the occurrence of airlock, ensuring the quality of ash pipe cleaning.

Operation method: Prior to cleaning, estimate the required acid quantity based on the total scale in the pipeline, then calculate the acid addition rate and sludge pipe flow rate for the addition of cleaning and corrosion inhibitor. During cleaning, collect a sample at the front end of the sludge pipe every 30 minutes to test acidity and strictly control it by adjusting the acid flow rate. In the later stage of cleaning, collect a sample at the end of the sludge pipe every 15 minutes to test pH. When the pH value reaches a certain level and remains unchanged for 30 minutes, the cleaning can be deemed complete.

2. High-pressure water jet cleaning equipment
High-pressure water jet cleaning offers high efficiency, low costs, non-damaging to workpieces, environmental protection, ease of operation, and safety advantages.
High-pressure water technology offers the following advantages.

(1) Excellent Cleaning Quality: The high-pressure water jet cleaning for pipes and the inner holes of heat exchangers can completely remove scale and blockages inside, revealing the metal substrate. The high-pressure water jet, with its immense energy and supersonic speed, is fully capable of destroying tough scale and blockages without causing any damage to the metal.

Since the pressure of high-pressure water is less than the compressive strength grade of metal, high-pressure cleaning will not damage the base material being cleaned.

(2) Fast Cleaning Speed: Due to the combined effects of water jet scouring, wedging, shearing, and abrasion, scale can be quickly broken and removed, which is several to ten times faster than traditional chemical methods, sandblasting and shot peening techniques, simple mechanical, and manual cleaning methods.

Additionally, parts cleaned with high-pressure water jetting do not require secondary cleaning; however, after chemical cleaning, the surface chemical must be rinsed off with clean water.

(3) No Environmental Pollution: Since high-pressure water jet cleaning uses pure water as the medium, it does not generate a large amount of dust like sandblasting, shot blasting, or simple mechanical cleaning, which can pollute the atmosphere and harm health. It also does not produce a large volume of waste liquid like some chemical cleaning methods, which can contaminate rivers, soil, and water quality. The water jet cleaning with pure water as the medium is odorless, tasteless, and non-toxic. After atomization, the emitted jet can also reduce the dust concentration in the work area, lowering atmospheric dust from 80mg/m³ with other methods to below the national safety standards, thus causing no pollution.

Pipe Scale

(1) Classified by chemical composition, they can be categorized into carbonate scale, sulfate scale, silicate scale, and mixed scale. The main components of carbonate scale are calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate; the main components of sulfate scale and silicate scale are calcium sulfate and silicate compounds, respectively.

(2) Classified by physical properties, there are two types: hard scale that firmly adheres to the pot shell and tube walls, and loose sediment that is easy to dislodge.
Lime scale primarily forms due to the salts like calcium and magnesium in the boiler feed water, which precipitate and adhere to the metal surface upon heating. Lime scale has a very low thermal conductivity, approximately 2 to 5 times that of ordinary steel. When lime scale accumulates on the boiler's heating surface, it significantly worsens the heat transfer efficiency and affects the boiler's performance; it can easily cause metal materials to burn due to localized overheating, potentially leading to pipe explosion accidents; it also accelerates galvanic corrosion, causing pipeline lime scale corrosion and speeding up the damage to the heating surface. Once lime scale forms, it should be promptly removed using mechanical or chemical methods.
