Chemical Cleaning Scale Removal Process
Recirculating Closed Loop Cleaning
Recirculating cleaning utilizes two existing parallel ash discharge pipelines to form a loop, creating a recirculation system with the cleaning pump station. A solution of a certain concentration of acidity is added, and it circulates within the ash water pipeline for cleaning. Additionally, acid is continuously replenished as the acidity level drops. For short-distance single ash water pipelines, if conditions permit, a temporary pipeline can be laid to form a recirculation loop for cleaning. This process must be carried out during shutdown, and it is complex and costly.
Open road cleaning
No two ash pipes should form a loop during cleaning; only a single ash pipe can be used for open circuit cleaning. The method involves connecting one end of the ash pipe to the cleaning unit, continuously preparing a certain concentration of cleaning solution in the mixing tank, and then injecting it into the ash pipe continuously or intermittently. This process requires the addition of cleaning equipment during shutdown, which increases costs.
Continuous cleaning without shutdown
The process involves continuously injecting a certain amount of acidic solution while operating the ash conveying pipeline, simultaneously introducing a specific quantity of ash conveying pipeline cleaning inhibitor and pipeline cleaning descaler for open-circuit cleaning. The primary function of the cleaning aids is to facilitate the reaction between the acidic solution and the ash scale at a certain concentration and flow rate, while also enhancing its solubility in water, reducing the occurrence of air blockages, and ensuring the quality of ash pipeline cleaning.
The procedure is as follows: Before cleaning, first estimate the required acid amount based on the total scale in the pipeline. Then, calculate the acid addition rate and the flow rate of the descaling agent and pipeline cleaning agent by considering the sludge flow rate and acidity. During cleaning, take a sample at the front end of the sludge pipe every 30 minutes to test the acidity and strictly control it by adjusting the acid flow rate. In the later stage of cleaning, take a sample at the end of the sludge pipe every 15 minutes to test the pH value. When the pH value reaches a certain level and remains unchanged for 30 minutes, the cleaning can be deemed complete.
2. High-pressure water jet cleaning equipment
High-pressure water jet cleaning offers advantages such as high efficiency, low cost, non-damaging to workpieces, environmental friendliness, ease of operation, and safety.
The high-pressure water technology offers the following advantages.
(1) Excellent Cleaning Quality: The high-pressure water jet cleaning of pipeline and heat exchanger bores can completely remove scale and blockages inside, revealing the metal surface. The high-pressure water jet, with its immense energy and supersonic speed, can fully destroy hard scale and blockages without causing any damage to the metal.
Since the pressure of high-pressure water is less than the compressive strength grade of metal, high-pressure cleaning will not damage the substrate being cleaned.
(2) Fast Cleaning Speed: Due to the combined fracturing effects of water jet washing, wedge splitting, shearing, and grinding, scale can be quickly broken and removed, making the cleaning speed several to ten times faster than traditional chemical methods, sandblasting and shot peening techniques, simple mechanical, and manual methods.
Additionally, components cleaned with high-pressure water jetting do not require secondary cleaning; however, after chemical cleaning, the surface chemical must be rinsed off with clean water.
(3) No Environmental Pollution: Since high-pressure water jet cleaning uses clean water as the medium, it does not produce large amounts of dust like sandblasting or simple mechanical cleaning, which can pollute the air and harm health. It also does not generate large amounts of waste liquid like some chemical cleaning methods, which can pollute rivers, soil, and water quality. The water jet cleaning using clean water is odorless, tasteless, and non-toxic. After atomization, it can also reduce the dust concentration in the working area, lowering atmospheric dust levels from 80mg/m³ with other methods to below the national safety standards. Therefore, it does not cause any pollution.

Pipe Scale
(1) Categorized by chemical composition, they include carbonate scale, sulfate scale, silicate scale, and mixed scale. The primary components of carbonate scale are calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate; while sulfate scale and silicate scale are primarily composed of calcium sulfate and silicate compounds, respectively.
(2) Categorized by physical properties, there are two types: scale that firmly adheres to the pot body and tube walls, and sediment that is loosely textured and easily detached.
Lime scale primarily forms due to the salts of calcium and magnesium in the boiler feed water, which precipitate and adhere to the metal surface upon heating. Lime scale has a very low thermal conductivity, approximately 2 to 5 times that of ordinary steel. When lime scale accumulates on the boiler's heating surface, it significantly deteriorates heat transfer efficiency and affects the boiler's performance; it can also cause metal materials to burn due to local overheating, potentially leading to pipe burst accidents; it accelerates galvanic corrosion, causing pipeline lime scale corrosion and speeding up the damage to the heating surface. Once lime scale forms, it should be promptly removed using mechanical or chemical methods.
