Chemical Cleaning Scale Removal Process

Recirculating Closed Loop Cleaning

Recirculating cleaning utilizes two existing parallel ash removal pipelines to form a loop, creating a recirculation system with the cleaning pump station. A certain concentration of acidic solution is added, which circulates through the ash water pipeline for cleaning. As the acid cleaning reaches a certain level, the acidic solution is continuously replenished. For short-distance single ash water pipelines, if conditions permit, a temporary pipeline can be laid to form a recirculation loop for cleaning. This process must be carried out while the system is offline and is complex, with higher costs.

Breakaway Cleaning

No two gray pipes can form a loop during cleaning; only a single gray pipe can be used for open-loop cleaning. The method involves connecting one end of the gray pipe to the cleaning unit, continuously preparing a certain concentration of cleaning solution in the dosing tank, and then continuously or intermittently injecting it into the gray pipe. This process requires additional cleaning equipment during shutdown, which increases costs.

Continuous operation cleaning

This process involves continuously injecting a certain amount of acidic solution while running, without interrupting the normal operation of the ash conveying pipeline. Simultaneously, a specific quantity of ash conveying pipeline running cleaner and pipeline descaling agent is added. The cleaning is done by opening the circuit. The primary function of the cleaning aids is to facilitate the reaction between the acidic solution and ash deposits at a certain concentration and flow rate, while also increasing solubility in water and reducing the formation of air blockages, ensuring the quality of ash pipeline cleaning.

The procedure is as follows: Before cleaning, estimate the required acid quantity based on the total scale in the pipeline. Then, calculate the acid addition rate and the flow rate of the sludge pipe operation by considering the sludge flow rate and acidity. During cleaning, take a sample at the front end of the sludge pipe every 30 minutes to test the acidity and strictly control it by adjusting the acid flow rate. In the later stage of cleaning, take a sample at the end of the sludge pipe every 15 minutes to test the pH value. When the pH value reaches a certain level and remains unchanged for 30 minutes, the cleaning can be considered complete.

2. High-pressure water jet cleaning equipment
High-pressure water jet cleaning offers advantages such as high efficiency, low cost, non-damaging to workpieces, non-polluting the environment, ease of operation, and safety.
High-pressure water technology boasts the following advantages.

(1) Excellent cleaning quality: The high-pressure water jet cleaning of pipeline and heat exchanger bores can completely remove scaling and blockages from inside the pipes, revealing the metal substrate. With its immense energy and supersonic speed, the high-pressure water jet is fully capable of breaking down hard scaling and blockages, yet it has no damaging effect on metal.

Since the pressure of high-pressure water is less than the compressive strength grade of metal, high-pressure cleaning will not damage the substrate being cleaned.

(2) Fast Cleaning Speed: Due to the combined crushing effects of water jet scouring, splitting, shearing, and grinding, scaling can be quickly broken and removed, several to ten times faster than traditional chemical methods, sandblasting, ball-blasting methods, simple mechanical, and manual cleaning techniques.

Parts cleaned with high-pressure water jet do not require secondary cleaning; chemical cleaning, however, necessitates rinsing off the surface with clear water.

(3) No Environmental Pollution: As high-pressure water jet cleaning uses pure water as the medium, it does not generate a large amount of dust like sandblasting, grit-blasting, or simple mechanical cleaning, which can pollute the air and harm health. It also does not produce a large amount of waste liquid like some chemical cleaning methods, which can contaminate rivers, soil, and water quality. The water jet cleaning with pure water as the medium is odorless, tasteless, and non-toxic. After atomization, it can also reduce the dust concentration in the work area, lowering atmospheric dust from 80mg/m³ using other methods to below the national safety standards. 3. Pipe Scale

(1) Classified by chemical composition, they can be categorized into carbonate scale, sulfate scale, silicate scale, and mixed scale. The main components of carbonate scale are calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate; the main components of sulfate scale and silicate scale are calcium sulfate and silicate compounds, respectively.

(2) Classified by physical properties, there are two types: hard scale that firmly adheres to the pot shell and pipe walls, and soft sludge that is loose and easy to dislodge.
Lime scale primarily forms due to the salts like calcium and magnesium present in the boiler feed water, which precipitate and adhere to the metal surface upon heating. Lime scale has a very low thermal conductivity, about 2 to 5 times that of ordinary steel. When lime scale accumulates on the boiler's heating surface, it significantly worsens heat transfer efficiency and affects the boiler's performance; it can easily cause metal materials to burn due to localized overheating, even leading to tube bursting accidents; it also accelerates galvanic corrosion, causing pipeline lime scale corrosion and speeding up the damage to the heating surface. Once lime scale forms, it should be promptly removed using mechanical or chemical methods.
