Open-web floor deck is formed by cold bending galvanized steel plate into a V-shaped, U-shaped, trapezoidal, or similar waveform cross-section. It serves as an invariable formwork for concrete floor slabs and is also involved in the load calculation of the floor's lower reinforcement steel, working together with concrete to form a composite floor.
Installation of open-web floor deck
1. First, locate the centerline of the steel beam in the laying panel area, as the centerline of the main beam serves as the control line for the fixed position of the floor deck. The centerline of the main beam controls the overlap width of the floor deck with the steel beam and determines the welding points for the penetration welding between the floor deck and the steel beam. The centerline of the secondary beam determines the welding position of the penetration welds. Since it's difficult to observe the position of the secondary beam flanges after the floor deck is laid, the centerline and width of the secondary beam flanges are反弹 onto the centerline of the main beam. When fixing the bolts, the centerline and width of the secondary beam flanges should be反弹 back to the floor deck on the secondary beam face.
2. At the material storage area, sort and section the deck panels according to the material list, label them with numbers, clearly differentiate between layers, sections, and numbers, mark them with a marker, and transport them accurately to the construction site.
3. Use soft slings for hoisting to ensure the deck plate sheets do not deform as a whole or have curled edges locally. For multi-story steel structures, the general design uses a 3-layer column assembly process (single-story structures are self-explanatory). When installing deck plates, they should be constructed simultaneously with the steel column beams, with at least a 3-story difference. Therefore, deck plates can only be hoisted through the beam-column intersections of the upper floor, and the crane operator should control the lifting in layers between the beams and columns.
4. Trim edges using a plasma cutter or shears, ensuring excess material is within a 5mm range during cutting. Take measures to prevent leakage during concrete pouring.
5. The connection between deck plates and side panels is achieved using a clamp bite technique, forming a solid deck plate. First, spot-weld the side edges of the deck plates, then secure the ends, and use bolts for fixation.
6. Enhance concrete curing.
During the construction of open-jointed corrugated steel plates, it is necessary to add end plates and guardrails. Leaks in the concrete pouring process on the floor slab are common, and the bottom of the plates must be tied with reinforcing bars, which will increase the construction period. In contrast, when using closed-jointed plates, only one guardrail is needed, no end plates, and leaks on the construction site are less likely. Moreover, it saves time in tying the reinforcing bars for the plates. Closed-jointed plates are less prone to deformation during installation, whereas open-jointed plates may decrease in height and increase in width during transportation and installation. Adjustments must be made to their deformation during the installation process to avoid accidents, as the reduced height of the plates can affect the cross-sectional properties.
Open-web deck compared to form deck:
1. Can serve as a structural strength support without the need for disassembly, unlike ordinary formwork.
2. Easy for laying rebar, installing pipelines, and conduits.
3. Saves raw material costs, reduces steel reinforcement, and with fewer ridges and valleys in the open-web floor deck, it can save up to 1/3 of the concrete.
4. Lightweight with high load-bearing capacity, and excellent seismic and fire-resistant properties.
5. Easy and convenient installation, simply place on the steel beam and secure with bolts; can also serve as a construction platform. Two to four people can cover 500-700 square meters, whereas standard formwork is cumbersome, slow, and more dangerous, with two to four people only able to cover 200-400 square meters.
Open-web floor deck features
1. Replace traditional templates, improve their shortcomings, and eliminate the need for dismantling and installation.
2. Lightweight, high strength, heavy load-bearing capacity, and good seismic performance.
3. Can serve as part of the steel structure's strength, reducing material costs.
4. Simple and quick construction, easy assembly.
5. Easy reinforcement, wiring, and piping installation.
