Forging quality inspection items as follows:
(1) Geometric Shapes and Dimensions
General forging dimensions are measured using steel rulers, calipers, and templates; for complex-shaped die forgings, marking methods can be used for inspection.
(2) Surface Quality
Surface cracks, indentation, or fold defects on forgings can usually be seen with the naked eye. Sometimes, the cracks are very small, and the depth of the fold is uncertain; in such cases, observe after cleaning and scraping. Inspection methods can be used if necessary.
(3) Internal Organization
Are there cracks, inclusions, porosity, and other defects in the forging, which can be inspected visually or with a magnifying glass between 10 to 30 times on the forging cross-section macrostructure. A commonly used method in production is acid etching inspection, where a sample is cut from the area of the forging to be inspected and immersed in an acidic solution to clearly reveal the defects in the macrostructure of the cross-section, such as forging flow lines, cracks, and inclusions.
