Forging quality inspection items are as follows:
(1) Geometric Shapes and Dimensions
General forgings are inspected for their外形 dimensions using steel rulers, calipers, templates, and other measuring tools; for complex-shaped die forgings, the marking method can be used for inspection.
(2) Surface Quality
Surface cracks, dents, or folds on forgings are generally visible to the naked eye. Sometimes, cracks may be very small, and the depth of the folds is uncertain; in such cases, they can be observed after cleaning. If necessary, an ultrasonic inspection method can be used.
(3) Internal Organization
Internal defects such as cracks, inclusions, and porosity in forgings can be inspected visually or with a magnifying glass between 10 to 30 times on the forging fracture surface. A commonly used method in production is acid etching inspection, where a sample is cut from the part of the forging to be inspected and immersed in an acidic solution to clearly reveal the defects in the macrostructure of the fracture, such as forging flow lines, cracks, and inclusions.
