Internal combustion engine vehicles equipped with catalytic converters help reduce emissions of harmful gases such as carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC), and nitrogen oxides (NOx). Certain chemical reactions within the converter convert harmful substances into carbon dioxide (CO2), water (H2O), and nitrogen (N). To optimize and accelerate these reactions, catalyst elements are used in the converter, such as the three platinum group metals (PGM): platinum (Pt), palladium (Pd), and rhodium (Rh).
