Sculpture is a plastic art form that creates three-dimensional visual images through the use of materials and techniques. Early sculptures were primarily created using carving (shaping by removing material) and modeling (shaping by adding material) in materials such as stone, metal, wood, and ceramics. However, modernist sculpture offers a high degree of freedom in both materials and creative methods, allowing for creation through carving, welding, molding, or casting on various different materials.
