Glass insulators, in the initial years of production and operation, have been found to have the following series of advantages over porcelain insulators:

Due to the high mechanical strength of the glass insulator's surface, it is less prone to cracking. The electrical strength of glass generally remains consistent throughout its operation, and its aging process is much slower than porcelain. Therefore, glass insulators are mainly retired due to self-damage, which occurs within a year of operation, whereas defects in porcelain insulators are only discovered after several years of operation.

Utilizing glass insulators eliminates the need for regular, preventative, live-body tests during operation. This is because any damage to the tempered glass results in immediate destruction of the insulator, easily detectable by line personnel during inspections. When the insulator is damaged, glass fragments are trapped near the steel cap and iron foot, and the remaining mechanical strength of the insulator is sufficient to prevent it from fracturing. The rate of glass insulator breakage is a crucial indicator of product quality and serves as a quality basis for bidding and evaluation in transmission projects.
