What are the characteristics of lightweight aggregate concrete?
Lightweight concrete is a type of light concrete made with lightweight aggregates, with a density not exceeding 1900 Kg/m3, also known as porous aggregate lightweight concrete.
Lightweight aggregate concrete features light weight, good thermal insulation and fire resistance. The compressive strength of structural lightweight aggregate concrete can reach up to 70 MPa, which is 20-30% lighter than ordinary concrete of the same grade. Structural thermal insulation lightweight aggregate concrete is a good wall material with excellent thermal insulation properties, with a thermal conductivity of 0.233-0.523 W/(m*K), only 12-33% of that of ordinary concrete. Lightweight aggregate concrete has good deformation properties and a low modulus of elasticity. Generally, it also exhibits significant shrinkage and creep. The modulus of elasticity of lightweight aggregate concrete is proportional to its unit weight and strength. The lower the unit weight and strength, the lower the modulus of elasticity. Compared to ordinary concrete of the same grade, the modulus of elasticity of lightweight aggregate concrete is approximately 25-65% lower.
