The gabion mesh is mechanically woven from high-corrosion resistant, high-tensile, and ductile low-carbon steel wire, or wire coated with PVC. The box-like structures made from this mesh are known as gabion boxes. The diameter of the low-carbon steel wire used complies with ASTM and EN standards and varies according to engineering design requirements, generally ranging from 2.0 to 4.0 mm. The tensile strength of the gabion wire is not less than 38 kg/m², the weight of the metallic coating is usually above 245 g/m², and the diameter of the edge line of the gabion mesh is generally larger than the wire diameter. The length of the double twisted section must not be less than 50 mm to ensure that the metallic and PVC coatings of the twisted wire are not damaged.
Usage
Wire mesh baskets are used for slope support, foundation pit support, and rock face mesh shotcrete.
Erosion control with vegetation (greening), isolation fences for railways and highways. It can also be made into boxes and mats for erosion protection of rivers, embankments, and sea dikes, as well as for reservoir and river weir netting. Severe river disasters are caused by the washing away of riverbanks, leading to flooding and massive losses of life, property, and soil erosion. Therefore, the application of the ecological geotextile structure is one of the solutions to address these issues, as it can protect riverbeds and riverbanks.

Both structures can be electroplated, and the woven wire baskets can be coated with PVC separately. Filled with hard, weather-resistant stone blocks, they will not break down quickly due to abrasion in stone boxes or stone baskets. Stone baskets filled with different types of block stones have varying characteristics. The angular blocks can interlock well with each other, and baskets filled with them are less prone to deformation.

Hexagonal wire mesh baskets are made from woven angle-shaped (hexagonal) mesh, with the metal wire diameter varying according to the size of the hexagon.
