The viscosity measurement system is a specialized and automated testing equipment designed for determining the intrinsic viscosity, viscosity number, average polymerization degree, and viscosity average molecular weight of polymers. Depending on the number of testing units configured in the system, it is categorized as NCY-X/2, NCY-X/4, and NCY-X/6, with corresponding configurations of two, four, and six testing units, respectively. These can simultaneously support two, four, or six viscometers.

The measurement of the time required for a certain volume of solution, previously performed manually, to flow through a capillary.

Originally, the determination of the validity of data was conducted manually.

Like the NCY Automatic Viscosity Meter, it will still be executed by the system.

The system will still display the flow of the solution in capillary viscometers within each unit in real-time and visually.

The system will still automatically repeat the testing and eliminate out-of-tolerance results, ensuring accurate flow time.

The system retains the JWC precision temperature-controlled bath, a result of our 1990s national research project, and continues to deliver long-term temperature fluctuations and distributions superior to ±0.01°C, ensuring consistency of test data at any moment and location.

In addition, the automated testing system will also feature the following new functions:

Automatic dilution instrument with a precision of up to 0.1% for配制concentration, easily preparing sample solutions (one-button dilution).

Double-glazed vials with isolation design, ensuring the prepared solution dissolves rapidly and evenly in the jingque恒温 oscillating bath without interference from moisture.

Automatic liquid delivery system, eliminating the need for manual feeding into the viscosity tube; a comprehensive device that automatically filters the solution and delivers it into the capillary of the viscometer.

The automatic test has ended. The system will automatically extract waste liquid and wait for the arrival of the next sample to automatically complete the capillary rinsing and testing.

When cleaning capillaries is required, simply initiate the cleaning program, and the system will autonomously complete the entire process of fluid injection - soaking - recovery - cleaning - drying, without the need for manual intervention.

System Structure

Ncy-xThe automatic viscosity measurement system consists of the following components:

1.1 NCY Test Unit, internally equipped with various sensors, in conjunction with the central controller, can perform testing as well as cleaning the capillary viscometer within the unit.

1.2 Precision Constant Temperature Baths of the JWC series, equipped with installation test units to ensure the normal working environment temperature of the units (instruction manual included).

1.3 PY Series Automatic Mixture Dispenser (optional accessory, instruction manual included).

1.4 WR-2 Rapid Sample Dissolution Constant Temperature Oscillator (optional, manual included), equipped with dual sample dissolution bottles, operates at precise temperatures, effectively avoiding water interference during operation.

1.5 NCY-X Viscosity Auto-Determination System, included in the central control system, achieves precise measurement of the time it takes for the solution to flow through the capillary.

1.6 Sample Inserter

Samples are dissolved in the solvent bottle and placed here. After the system is started for testing, the required solution will be automatically filtered through a sand core and sent to the capillary.

1.7 Cleaning System

Pre-set various detergents to clean the viscometer, filter, and all fluid lines during the automatic testing phase for a specific unit within the central system. Upon completion of the cleaning, perform a drying process.

1.8 Commercial or industrial computers with a printer, keyboard, and monitor, etc., as terminal equipment.

2. Layout of the Automatic Viscosity Measurement System

This automated testing system is composed of several components, which can be arranged in various configurations according to the user's requirements, but its fundamental principle is:

2.1 Ensure all pipeline distances are as short as possible, while also considering practical operations such as filling and emptying. The cover image illustrates a typical reasonable layout.

2.2 The pipeline connecting from the central control unit to the viscometer must start from the central control system and gradually decrease, without any rises in between.

3. Sample Processing

3.1 Automatic Solution Preparation

3.2 Quick Dissolution of Samples

See WR-2 Rapid Sample Dissolution Oscillator manual (optional accessory), featuring a sample dissolution flask with a double-layered insulating sleeve.

The dissolution process of the sample in the solvent can sometimes be quite lengthy, taking one or even more hours. It requires oscillation at as high a temperature as possible to accelerate the process. Excessive temperature will lead to degradation, so the temperature should be precisely controlled.

4. Vacuum Pressure Adjustment

The automatic testing system operates under the effect of vacuum pressure. This system is equipped with different pressure sources specifically for the liquid intake and testing of viscometers, transfer of cleaning fluid, and drying. Depending on the different solvent compositions of the sample and cleaning fluid, different vacuum pressures need to be adjusted to accommodate.

Vacuum Pressure Adjustment Method:

Two pressure gauges are located on the control system panel: one for adjusting and controlling the working pressure of the sample solution with a constant pressure gauge, and the other for regulating and controlling the working pressure of the washing liquid with a pump pressure gauge.

Vacuum pressure regulation methods are as follows:

Press the mode key (left button), until "L" appears0-2 shows the lower limit of the current vacuum setting. Press the up and down keys to adjust the upper limit setting.

Press the pattern key again to display H1After -2, the current upper limit of vacuum degree is displayed. Press the up and down keys to change the upper limit setting.

Note: The vacuum pressure value is negative.

5. Inlet and Testing

Prepare a clean empty solvent sample bottle, pour out half of the solution from the solvent bottle in the oscillator into the empty solvent bottle, then place them together in the corresponding sampling unit position.

During testing, only approximately 13mL of sample is required. Therefore, if rinsing is necessary before testing, you will need to prepare approximately 26mL of solution at once. Place the solvent bottle on the autosampler, press the rinse button for the corresponding unit, and the solvent bottle rack advances. Stop when the previous solvent bottle (for rinsing) is in the position of the pipette, then the pipette descends and inserts into the volumetric flask, while the flask for the test is automatically capped. After initiating the test, the testing system will automatically draw the solution from the solvent bottle, complete the rinse, and automatically discharge the liquid.

Keep holding the test button, another sample vial is sent to the testing station, waiting for the test to start. Test complete, the sample vial returns to the starting position.

Sample Solution Bottle Location

Wash Position: The suction tube is inserted into the front beaker, and the mouth of the rear beaker automatically covers it.

Test port: Insert the syringe into the vial at the back.

Test complete, solvent bottle returned to starting position.

After initiating the test program for this unit on the computer, the unit automatically enters the working state. The subsequent operations are performed automatically by the system. The operator can view the progress of the unit's testing on the screen, and a dialog box will automatically pop up if any issues arise during the test.

Test complete. After the system automatically discharges the waste liquid, it proceeds to the next test phase.

6. Capillary Viscometer Cleaning and Drying

After a period of use, the viscometer should be cleaned.

Firstly, place a solvent bottle in the rinse position of the sampler (it can also be the test position), and the pipette will automatically insert into the bottom of the bottle (this is very important!!)

Check and ensure there is an adequate supply of solvents like detergents and clean water, as well as sufficient remaining space in containers for waste liquids and wastewater.

Then you can initiate and complete the entire cleaning-drying process.

Select "Wash Solution Soak Cleaning" on the computer interface, the viscometer can complete the entire cleaning-drying process.

7. Routine Maintenance

7.1 Liquid Storage Bottle

Bottles containing liquids require regular monitoring of the liquid level. For waste liquid collection, it's necessary to clean up promptly when the level is high; for new liquids, timely replenishment is essential.

Remove the cap with care, noting the original state. Some may have a layer of Teflon film attached to prevent corrosion. When reinserting the plastic tube, be sure to pay attention to the tube number and the corresponding entrance marked on the bottle label. When replacing the cap, ensure it is tightly sealed and note the seal.

7.2 Vacuum Pump

During operation, if the intake of this type of vacuum pump maintains vacuum (low pressure), it may cause the oil pump to spray oil outward from the intake. This machine has been equipped with a special program in the control system to prevent oil spilling. However, after a considerable period of use, the oil level will also decrease. When the oil level in the oil gauge on the pump side falls below "min," add vacuum pump oil to the level between the first and second graduation lines of the oil gauge.
