The viscosity measurement system is a specialized, automated testing device designed for the characteristic viscosity, viscosity number, average molecular weight, and viscosity average molecular weight of polymers. Depending on the number of test units configured in the system, it is divided into NCY-X/2, NCY-X/4, and NCY-X/6 models, each with corresponding configurations of two, four, or six test units, allowing for the simultaneous use of two, four, or six viscometers.

In addition, the automatic testing system will also feature the following new functions:
Automated liquid preparation instrument with precision up to 0.1%, capable of conveniently preparing sample solutions (one-button liquid preparation).
A double-glazed isolation design of the sample bottle ensures that the prepared solution can dissolve quickly and evenly in a precise恒温 oscillator bath without interference from moisture.
Automatic liquid delivery system, no longer requiring manual feeding of the viscosity tube, a comprehensive unit that automatically filters and delivers the solution into the capillary of the viscometer.
The automatic test has concluded. The system will automatically extract waste fluid and await the arrival of the next sample to automatically complete the capillary rinsing and testing.
When cleaning capillaries is required, simply activate the cleaning program, and the system will autonomously complete the entire process of washing fluid injection, soaking, recovery, cleaning, and drying, without the need for manual intervention.
System Structure
Ncy-xThe automatic viscosity measurement system consists of the following components:
1.1 NCY Test Unit, equipped with various sensors and a central controller, capable of performing tests and cleaning the capillary viscometer within the unit, among other tasks.
1.2 Precision Constant Temperature Baths of the JWC series for placement of test units, ensuring normal operating environmental temperature (instruction manual included).
1.3 PY Series Automatic Mixture Dispenser (optional, manual included).
1.4 WR-2 Rapid Sample Dissolution Constant Temperature Oscillator (optional, manual included), equipped with dual sample dissolution bottles, operates at precise temperatures and effectively avoids moisture interference during operation.
1.5 NCY-X Viscosity Auto-Measurement System, integrated into the central control system, enabling precise timing measurement of the solution passing through the capillary.
1.6 Sample Inserter
Samples are dissolved in the dissolution bottle and placed here. After the system starts testing, the required solution will be automatically filtered through a sintered core and sent to the capillary.
1.7 Washing System
Pre-set various cleaning fluids. Under the cleaning program for a specific unit in the central system, clean the viscometer, filter, and all fluid lines used during automatic testing. Upon completion of the cleaning, perform a drying process.
1.8 Commercial or industrial computers with printers, keyboards, and monitors, etc.

2. Layout of the automatic viscosity measurement system
This automated testing system is composed of several components, which can be arranged in various configurations according to the user's setup, but its fundamental principle is:
2.1 Ensure all pipe distances are as short as possible, while also considering actual operations such as filling and emptying. The cover image illustrates a typical reasonable layout.
2.2 The pipeline from the central control unit to the viscometer must only slope downwards from the central control system, without any upward slopes in between.
3. Sample Handling
3.1 Automatic Solution Preparation

3.2 Quick Dissolution of Samples
See WR-2 Rapid Sample Dissolution Oscillator manual (accessory), equipped with a double-layer sleeve dissolution bottle.
The dissolution process of the sample in the solvent can sometimes be quite lengthy, taking one, even more, hours. It requires oscillation at as high a temperature as possible to accelerate the process. Excessive temperature will lead to degradation, so the temperature should be precisely controlled.
4. Vacuum Pressure Adjustment
The automatic testing system operates under the action of vacuum pressure. This system is equipped with different pressure sources specifically for the liquid supply and testing of the viscometer, transmission of washing liquid, and drying. Different vacuum pressures need to be adjusted according to the solvent composition of the samples and washing liquids to accommodate.
Vacuum pressure adjustment method:
Two pressure gauges are located on the control system panel: the constant pressure gauge adjusts and controls the working pressure of the sample solution, while the pump pressure gauge adjusts and controls the working pressure of the wash liquid.

Vacuum pressure regulation methods are as follows:
Press the pattern key (left button), until "L" appears0-2, shows the lower limit of the current vacuum setting. Press the up and down keys to adjust the upper limit setting.
Press the mode key again to display H1-2 shows the current upper limit of vacuum degree. Press the up and down keys to adjust the upper limit setting.
Note, the vacuum pressure value is negative.
5. Liquid Inlet and Testing
Prepare a clean empty solvent sample bottle, remove the solvent bottle containing the dissolved sample from the oscillator, pour half of its contents into the empty solvent bottle, and place them together in the corresponding sampling unit position.
During testing, only approximately 13mL of sample is required. Therefore, if it's necessary to rinse before testing, you'll need to prepare about 26mL of solution at a time. Place the dissolution vial on the autosampler, hold down the rinse key for the corresponding module, and the dissolution vial holder will advance. Stop when the previous dissolution vial (for rinsing) is at the liquid tube position. The liquid tube will then lower and insert into the volumetric flask, while the volumetric flask for the test sample is automatically capped. After starting the test, the testing system will automatically draw the solution from the dissolution vial, complete the rinse, and automatically drain the liquid.
Keep holding the test button, another sample vial is sent to the testing station, waiting for the test to start. Test complete, the sample vial returns to the starting position.

Sample Bottle Location
Washing Position: The suction tube is inserted into a solvent bottle in front, and the mouth of the subsequent solvent bottle is automatically sealed.
Test Port: Insert the syringe into the vial at the back.
Test completed, solvent bottle returned to starting position.
After initiating the test program for this unit on the computer, the unit automatically enters the working state. The subsequent operations are performed automatically by the system. The operator can view the progress of the unit's testing on the screen, and a dialog box will automatically pop up if any issues arise during the test.
Test completed; after the system automatically discharges the waste fluid, it proceeds to the next test phase.

6. Capillary Viscometer Cleaning and Drying
Viscometers should be cleaned after being used for a period of time.
First, place a solvent sample bottle in the rinse position (or test position) of the sampler, and the pipette will automatically insert into the bottom of the bottle (this is very important!!)
Check and ensure there is an adequate supply of detergents, solvents, and potable water. Verify that containers for waste liquids and wastewater have sufficient remaining space.
Then you can start and complete the full cleaning-drying process.
Select "Wash Solution Immersion Cleaning" on the computer interface, and the viscometer can complete the entire cleaning-drying process.
7. Routine Maintenance
7.1 Liquid Storage Bottle
Storage bottles require regular monitoring of the liquid level. For waste liquid collection, timely cleaning is necessary when the level is high; for new liquid types, it is important to replenish promptly.
Remove the cap with care, noting the original state. Some may have a layer of polytetrafluoroethylene film attached to prevent corrosion. When reinserting the plastic tube, be sure to pay attention to the tube's numbering and the corresponding entrance marked on the label. When replacing the cap, ensure it is tightly sealed and note the seal.
7.2 Vacuum Pump
This type of vacuum pump, if the suction port maintains a vacuum (low pressure), may cause oil to spray from the suction port outward. The machine has been equipped with a special program in the control system to prevent oil spraying. However, after a considerable period of use, the oil level may decrease. When the oil level in the pump side oil indicator falls below "min," add vacuum pump oil to the space between the first and second scale lines on the indicator.
