Accelerating the transformation and upgrading of the power grid to advance the construction of a new power system

On January 16th, the State Grid Corporation organized the technical review for the Gansu-Zhejiang Ultra-High Voltage Direct Current Project, marking a significant progress in the project's preliminary phase. As a key transmission project of China's 14th Five-Year Plan, it is the country's first fully operational ultra-high voltage flexible direct current project. Upon completion, the project will add 8 million kilowatts of transmission capacity to Zhejiang, supporting the province's energy greening and contributing to the green and low-carbon development of the economy and society.

The Gansu-Zhejiang Ultra-High Voltage Direct Current project is a key initiative that supports State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power in constructing a provincial-level demonstration area for a new power system. Currently, the company is accelerating the transformation and upgrading of the power grid by building a "resource allocation-based robust main grid, an efficient interactive new distribution network, and a comprehensive service digital grid," and fostering a new ecological system of "market-policy-management" mechanisms.

As of the end of December 2023, Zhejiang's new energy power generation capacity reached 39.4 million kilowatts, surpassing 30% of the province's total installed capacity for the first time, and completed the Zhejiang "14th Five-Year Plan for Doubling New Energy" goal two years ahead of schedule. New energy is gradually becoming a new engine for Zhejiang's green and low-carbon development. How to support the rapid growth of new energy? This year, State Grid Zhejiang Power proposed to build a resource allocation-based robust main grid, increase investment in major power projects, with the expected investment in grid construction exceeding 32.7 billion yuan, a new high for the "14th Five-Year Plan." The plan includes starting construction on 3,003 kilometers of transmission lines 110 kV and above and transformer capacity of 25.84 million kilovolt-amperes. Additionally, the existing safety defense system is being improved, with enhanced research on new safety mechanisms and balanced theoretical systems, accelerating the promotion and application of the provincial full electromagnetic simulation platform, and starting the construction of the innovative demonstration project for the Wenzhou Rui'an 500 kV new energy collection station, creating a Zhejiang model for large-scale new energy consumption.
