Introduction to Horizontal Large Diameter Bellows Expansion Joints
The expansion joint consists of two bellows with identical geometric parameters and wave numbers connected by a middle tube, as well as rods and end plates, forming a flexible component. It is primarily used to compensate for lateral displacement of single or multi-plane bending pipe sections. Suitable for "L" and "Z" type pipe systems. As the rods can withstand pressure thrust and other additional external forces, the expansion joint itself absorbs internal pressure thrust without exerting external forces on the pipeline. Therefore, the pipelines at both ends of the expansion joint can utilize intermediate fixed supports or guide supports, reducing construction costs and improving efficiency.
Our horizontally mounted bellows expansion joints are designed to the high American EJMA standards, featuring excellent flexibility, corrosion resistance, high-temperature resistance, wear and fatigue resistance, as well as a long service life. They can absorb the axial, lateral, and angular displacements of the pipeline. They have been supplied to numerous large cement plants, steel mills, power plants, and chemical factories in both domestic and international markets, ensuring stable and reliable product quality.
Performance characteristics of horizontal large-diameter expansion joints with bellows:
Two corrugated hoses connected by a middle tube, along with tie rods, end plates, and spherical and conical gaskets, form the structure, primarily designed to absorb lateral displacement, and can also compensate for axial, lateral, angular, and any combined displacement of these three forms. It is recommended to install the compound tie rod type expansion joint in the middle short tube arm of a Z-shaped pipeline at a 90° angle to compensate for the axial displacement of the long pipeline ends.

Lateral displacement is the relative displacement of one end of the bellows to the other end along a vertical axis perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. Single bellows can have lateral displacement, but the displacement amount is very small. A good solution is to use a double bellows as shown in Figure 2. The result is an increased lateral displacement compensation with reduced applied force.
