The transmission drum is a component that transmits power in conveyors. There are different driving methods for belt conveyors, including single drum, double drum, and multi-drum. Single drums are commonly used in conveyors with lower power, such as surface coal transportation and coal preparation plants. Underground belt conveyors typically use double drums for a more compact structure. The surface of the transmission drum features exposed polished steel, V-groove, and diamond pattern rubber coverings. Exposed polished steel surface can be used in low-power, narrow belt, and dry environments. V-groove rubber surface has a high friction coefficient, good anti-slip and drainage properties, but is directional. Diamond pattern rubber surface is used for conveyors operating in both directions.
1. Categories
Transmission drums are categorized into three types based on material: steel plate rolled and welded, cast steel, and cast iron. In terms of structural style, there are three types: assembled rim, spoke, and solid rim. Additionally, drum surfaces come in smooth, rubber-coated, and cast-gum finishes; among them, steel-welded assembled rim cast-gum drums are widely used.
2. Technical Specifications
Selection of the minimum drive roller diameter D:
D=c*d ,mm
Equation: d—core thickness or steel wire diameter, mm
Coefficient c - cotton fabric: 80, nylon: 90, polyester: 108, steel wire core: 145.
3. Maintenance Methods
Regularly clean off dust and other foreign matter from the drive roller.
Regular inspections should be conducted to ensure the welds between the drum shell and end caps are secure.
Maintain good lubrication for the drive roller to reduce frictional damage.
To prevent the transmission roller from operating under overload, extending its service life.
4. Braking Failure Causes
Pressure is abnormal.
Brake pads are damaged.
The braking disks on both sides of the drive roller are defective.
Brake switch system operation failure.
The power transmission system of the drive roller failed to disconnect power in a timely manner.
Belt friction brake loosening or reduction in friction coefficient.
