Low-voltage insulators are used for insulating and suspending conductors in low and extra-low voltage AC and DC transmission lines. In earlier years, low-voltage insulators were commonly used on utility poles. Over time, they evolved to include many disk-shaped insulators mounted at one end of tall high-voltage transmission towers, designed to increase creepage distance. Typically made of glass or ceramic, these are referred to as insulators.
