Rack gears are special gears with teeth distributed along a strip shape. They come in two types: straight rack gears and helical rack gears, which are paired with straight cylindrical gears and helical cylindrical gears, respectively. The teeth of the rack are straight rather than involute (flat for the mating gear face), akin to a cylindrical gear with an infinite pitch circle radius.
