EDM Graphite (Electrical Discharge Machining) is primarily used for processing complex and finely detailed parts, such as punch dies, concave dies, convex-concave dies, fixed plates, and unload plates, as well as metal electrodes for forming, patterns, and EDM shaping. It is also suitable for various micro-holes, narrow gaps, and arbitrary curves. It boasts outstanding advantages such as small machining allowances, high precision, and efficiency in production and manufacturing. It has been widely applied in production, and currently, EDM wire-cutting machines account for over 60% of the total number of electrical machining machines both domestically and internationally.
Electrical discharge machining utilizes the principle of removing material from the workpiece surface layer by layer through the instantaneous high temperature generated when the electrodes are energized with the workpiece, creating sparks. It is suitable for processing high-hardness conductive workpieces. CNC electrical discharge machining machines are a typical example of electrical discharge machining.
EDM is the popular fourth machining method after turning, grinding, and milling. Compared to traditional copper electrodes, EDM offers the following advantages with isostatic graphite:
The price of the same volume of graphite is just 25% of that for copper electrodes.
Graphite processing speed is 3-5 times faster than copper electrode processing, resulting in a smooth surface finish.
High precision processing, easy to polish.
Graphite has a bulk density just 1/5 that of copper electrodes, making it more suitable for manufacturing large electrodes.
When used as electrodes for electrical discharge machining, the consumption is only 1/3-1/5 of copper electrodes, and the decomposition of the spark oil carbonizes the covering, compensating for electrode wear.
