Potassium formate is an organic salt with the chemical formula HCOOK. It is a white solid that is highly hygroscopic, has reducing properties, and can react with strong oxidizers. Its density is 1.9100 g/cm3, it dissolves easily in water, and is non-toxic and non-corrosive. The aqueous solution is a colorless and transparent liquid, with a specific gravity of 1.58 g/cm3 for the saturated solution.

Primary Uses

1. ‌Agricultural Use: A‌Potassium acetate is primarily used in agriculture for producing foliar fertilizers. It contains potassium, which can be rapidly absorbed by plants through foliar application, enhancing photosynthesis efficiency, increasing leaf thickness and luster, thereby boosting yield and quality. Additionally, potassium acetate can act as a fertilizer enhancer, accelerating the dissolution and release of fertilizers in the soil, and improving fertilizer utilization. In soil improvement for saline-alkali soils, potassium acetate can reduce soil salinity, improve soil structure, and promote seed germination and seedling growth.

2. ‌Oil Drilling: A‌Potassium acetate also plays a significant role in oil drilling. It is used in the formulation of drilling fluids, offering strong inhibition, formation protection, and environmental benefits. Potassium formate drilling fluids can clean the well bottom, cool and lubricate drilling tools, prevent blowouts and collapses, and reduce production costs.

3. ‌Industrial Use: Methyl‌Potassium acid has various applications in the industrial sector. It can be used as a coolant for metal and mechanical processing, providing cooling and lubrication, reducing cutting heat, and enhancing production efficiency and processing quality.

4. Additionally, potassium formate is used in road de-icers, early-strength agents for cement slurry, reducing agents in the dyeing industry, and masking acids in the leather industry.
