Properties:
White powder, specific gravity 2.484 (at 20°C), easily soluble in water, insoluble in organic solvents, strong hygroscopic, gradually absorbs moisture in the air to become sticky, can form soluble chelates with metal ions such as Ca, Ba, Mg, Cu, Fe, and is an excellent water treatment agent.
Application:
Industrial applications include oil fields, papermaking, textiles, dyeing and finishing, petrochemicals, leather, metallurgy, building materials, and others, serving as softening agents, buffering agents, flotation agents, dispersants, and high-temperature binders; in the food industry, it acts as a quality improver, pH regulator, metal ion chelating agent, binder, and expander. It stabilizes natural pigments in beans, canned goods, and bean paste fillings, maintaining color; in canned goods, it emulsifies fat, ensuring uniform texture; in meat canned goods and meat products, it improves water retention and prevents fat spoilage. Added to beer, it clarifies the liquid, preventing turbidity. It is an excellent water softener with no sediment. In the processing of aquatic products, it plays a role in water retention, expansion, and bleaching. Sodium hexametaphosphate is generally added at 3-5‰ in food processing and at 3% in the processing of aquatic products.
