Hardmetal's magnetic properties

Hardmetal is a composite material made of tungsten carbide (WC) and cobalt (Co). The addition of cobalt imparts superior hardness to the alloy.
The material also exhibits excellent toughness. The weight percentage of cobalt in the alloy is typically between 3% to 30%. The measurement of the magnetic properties of the hard alloy is for metallurgical processing.

The quality of metallurgical bonding and the occurrence of unwanted phases can be assessed. The Hardness Charpy J (HCJ) data provides an indication of grain size.
