3PE/Inner IPN8710 Corrosion-Resistant Steel Pipe is a type of pipe that, as the name suggests, is based on spiral steel pipe, seamless steel pipe, and straight seam welded pipe. The outer surface is coated with 3PE (three-layer polyethylene + adhesive + epoxy powder) for corrosion protection, while the inner surface is coated with IPN8710 corrosion-resistant paint with excellent weather resistance. Unlike the inner surface of TPEP corrosion-resistant steel pipe, it is relatively cheaper in cost and has a wide range of applications. Below, we will separately introduce these two types of internal and external corrosion protection.

The inner wall IPN8710 coating is non-toxic, high in solids content, and low in viscosity, offering strong adhesion, high strength, resistance to abrasion, hydrolysis, corrosion, water, and weathering—making it a new type of anti-corrosion paint with excellent properties. The internal corrosion medium in water supply pipelines is diverse, including acids, alkalis, salts, oxidizers, and steam. The paint must be chemically inert, resistant to acid, alkali, and salt corrosion, with a dense structure, good water resistance, strong adhesion, and toughness.
IPN8710-1: Composed of polyurethane polyethylene, modified epoxy resin, non-toxic anti-rust pigments and fillers, and additives, it cures at room temperature to form an interpenetrating network, with a dense film structure that is highly resistant to acids, bases, salts, and boasts excellent anti-corrosion properties and strong adhesion.
IPN8710-2A: Composed of epoxy, rubber resin modified, non-toxic, anti-rust pigments, additives, etc. Excellent chemical resistance, non-toxic, and resistant to microbial erosion.
IPN8710-1 is used as a corrosion-inhibiting primer coating for the inner wall of water supply pipelines.
IPN8710-3 is a corrosion-resistant coating paint for the inner wall of water supply pipelines.
The IPN8710 drinking water coating film is non-toxic, high in solids content, and low in viscosity, offering strong adhesion, high strength, resistance to abrasion, hydrolysis, corrosion, and water, and excellent weather resistance. It is a new type of anticorrosive coating suitable for the interior surfaces of equipment and facilities such as oil, chemical, power, metallurgical, transportation, gas holders, pipelines, storage tanks, and steel structures and concrete surfaces for long-lasting anticorrosion. It can also be used as anticorrosive coatings for the inner and outer walls of buried pipelines and the interior surfaces of cooling towers. The cyanofungicidal anticorrosive coating is an aromatic polyurethane with superior resistance to chemicals, heat, and radiation. The film has good physical and mechanical properties, high strength, good wear resistance, and a glossy finish. It exhibits excellent anticorrosive properties, being resistant to oil, alkali, acid, salt, industrial waste gases, and is mainly used for anticorrosion on concrete surfaces, chemical equipment, pipelines, oil tanks, and facilities or equipment such as sluices, dams, docks, and mines.

The 3PE anti-corrosion coating on the outer wall, also known as the three-layer polyethylene anti-corrosion coating, is a new type of anti-corrosion coating for steel pipes that ingeniously combines the 2PE anti-corrosion layer from Europe with the widely used FBE (fusion bonded epoxy) anti-corrosion coating for steel pipes in North America. It has been recognized and used worldwide for over a decade.
The 3PE anti-corrosion steel pipe coating consists of an epoxy powder anti-corrosion layer in contact with the steel pipe surface as the base layer, a middle layer of a copolymer adhesive with branching structural groups, and a top layer of high-density polyethylene anti-corrosion coating.
The 3PE corrosion coating combines the high impermeability and mechanical properties of epoxy resin and polyethylene materials. To date, it is globally recognized for its effectiveness and performance as a pipeline corrosion coating and is thus applied in numerous engineering projects.
Corrosion Protection of Steel Pipe Outer Surface
3PE corrosion protection typically consists of a 3-layer structure:
One coat of epoxy powder (FBE > 100 um)
Two-part adhesive (AD) 170-250 um
Three-layer Polyethylene (PE) 1.8-3.7mm
In actual operation, the three materials are mixed and integrated into one, processed to form a robust anti-corrosion layer that is firmly bonded to the steel pipe. The processing methods typically include winding and round mold wrapping.
