Introduction to Horizontal Large Diameter Bellows Expansion Joints
The expansion joint consists of two bellows with identical geometric parameters and wave numbers connected by a central tube, as well as rods and end plates, forming a flexible component. It is primarily used to compensate for lateral displacement of single or multi-plane bending pipe sections. Suitable for "L" and "Z" type pipe systems. Due to the rods' ability to withstand pressure thrust and other additional external forces, the expansion joint itself absorbs internal pressure thrust without exerting external force on the pipeline, allowing the pipeline ends to be supported by intermediate fixed or guiding brackets, thereby reducing construction costs and improving efficiency.
Our horizontally mounted expansion joints are designed with optimized American EJMA standards, featuring excellent flexibility, corrosion resistance, high-temperature resistance, wear resistance, and long fatigue life. They can absorb the axial, lateral, and angular displacements of pipelines. They have been supplied to numerous large-scale cement plants, steel mills, power plants, and chemical factories in both domestic and international markets, ensuring stable and reliable product quality.
Horizontal large drawbar bellows expansion joint performance features:
The assembly consists of two bellows connected by a middle pipe, as well as tie rods, end plates, and spherical-conical gaskets, primarily designed to absorb lateral displacements and can also compensate for axial, lateral, angular, and any composite displacements formed by these three types. It is recommended to install the double tie rod type expansion joint within the middle short pipe arm of a Z-shaped pipeline at a 90° angle to compensate for the axial displacement of the long pipelines at both ends.

Lateral displacement is the relative displacement between the ends of the bellows in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. Single bellows can have lateral displacement, but the amount is very small. A good solution is to use a compound bellows as shown in Figure 2. This results in an increased lateral displacement compensation and reduced applied force.
