Bison GrassBuchloe dactyloides(Nutt.) Engelm. is a species of grass in the genus *Buchloe* native to North America.West. Slender, tall.5-25 cm. Sheaths sparsely pubescent; ligule short and finely pubescent; leaf blades linear, rough, 3-10 cm long, 1-2 mm wide, both surfaces sparsely pubescent with white hair. Male inflorescence with 2-3 racemes arranged in spikes, 5-15 mm long, about 5 mm wide, pale yellow; female inflorescence usually capitate, 6-9 mm long, 3-4 mm wide. Perennial, height not over 20 cm. Leaves gray-green, curly. Stolons extensively spreading, forming dense turf.
Early settlers used it to build dwellings. Buffalo grass is a crucial year-round forage plant and is also used in low-maintenance areas such as highways, airport runways, golf courses, and other secondary tallgrass areas.
