Bentgrass (scientific name: Agrostis matsumurae Hack. ex Honda) is a perennial herb in the Poaceae family, with delicate rhizomes. The stems are tufted, upright, and slender, reaching up to 50 cm in height. The leaf sheaths are loose and smooth, the leaf tips are translucent and membranous, rounded or finely toothed at the apex, the leaves are erect, flat, shorter than the stems, slightly rough, with a green or gray-green hue above. The panicle is narrowly linear, the spike rachis is棒-shaped, the first glume is slightly longer than the second glume, the lemma is glabrous, the palea is ovate, the anthers are minute, and flowering and fruiting occur from April to July.
Found in eastern Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou, as well as in provinces and regions of central and east China. Grows at elevations of 300-1,700 meters in grasslands, under forest slopes, along roadsides, field edges, and stream sides, etc.
