Sapindus mukorossi, an evergreen tree, can reach a height of up to 12 meters. The bark is gray or pale gray, hairless. The leaves are alternate; petioles are 5-375px long; leaf blades are leathery, usually narrowly elliptic, 6-250px long, 2-87.5px wide, with acuminate tips, cuneate bases, rarely rounded, and with scattered shallow serrations along the margin. The upper surface is deep green and glossy, turning purple-red in winter, with an elevated midvein on the underside. Flowers are unisexual, with male and female on separate trees, in panicles arising from the axils or within the axils; calyx 4-lobed, petals 4, pale purple; stamens 4; ovary superior. Drupes are elliptic, 6-10mm long, red when ripe, containing 4 seeds, with a fruit stalk about 5mm long. Flowering in May, fruiting in October. Prefers sunny, warm, and humid climates, fertile soil with a deep layer, often growing in sparse forests.
