Bulb Type SASO 2870 Application Process

The Saudi Ministry of Industry and Commerce has issued an announcement, stipulating that as of February 9, 2016, all lighting products included in SASO2870:2018 standards must comply with the SASOEER energy consumption certification requirements for export to Saudi Arabia.
Standard Number: SASO 2870:2018
Standard Full Name: Energy Efficiency, Functionnality and Labeling Re forLighting Products Part1
I. Product Range
Including: Standard household or similar-purpose lamps used in Saudi Arabia, such as定向 and non定向 bulbs, mainly including AC or DC-powered incandescent bulbs, self-ballasted fluorescent lamps (energy-saving lamps), self-ballasted LED bulbs, and halogen bulbs, etc.
Exclusions: Lamps, lamp controllers, and bulbs not for general lighting purposes (such as signal lights, infrared heating lamps, and bulbs in other household appliances, as well as other specialized bulbs for different uses).
II. Extracts of Standard Requirements
The standard explicitly states that product manuals and warning labels must be available in both English and Arabic versions.
2. Bulbs for special purposes must clearly state the intended use of the product on the packaging and any other provided materials, and indicate that the product is not suitable for general household lighting.
3. The standard primarily evaluates for general household or similar applications:
Bulb Energy Efficiency Ratings: Mainly divided into four levels: A, B, C, D, and G.
Lamp performance requirements: including lifespan, lumen maintenance, switching cycles, startup time, color rendering index, and power factor, etc.
Bulbs must display the following information: Trademark, Input Voltage, Rated Power, Country of Origin. This information must be clearly marked in English and/or Arabic on the label, outer packaging, manual, and website.
Assessment requirements for harmful substances in light bulbs: including lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (Cr6+), polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE), and mercury, among others.
Light Bulb Energy Efficiency Label Requirements: The label must be on the packaging and clearly visible to consumers.
Durable goods and products exported to Saudi Arabia must undergo SASO certification. SASO stands for the Saudi Arabian Standards Organization, which is responsible for establishing national standards for all durable goods and products, including the design of measurement systems and labeling.
Many SASO standards are established based on safety standards of international organizations such as the International Electrotechnical Commission, while Saudi Arabia adds unique items to its national civil and industrial voltage, geographical, climatic environment, and ethnic religious customs standards. The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Industry and Commerce, and SASO, require that all SASO certification standards include the requirement that products must hold a SASO certification certificate upon entering Saudi customs. Otherwise, the products will be refused entry by the Saudi port customs. It is believed that the "SASO 2870/2018 – Energy Efficiency, Functionality, and Labeling Requirements for Lighting Products" is a supplement to SASO certification, and companies exporting products to Saudi Arabia should pay particular attention to it.
