Applications of PC Plastic
Section 1: Industry Development
The three main application areas of PC engineering plastics are glass assembly, automotive industry, and electronics/electricity industry. Following these, there are also industrial machinery parts, CDs, packaging, office equipment such as computers, bags, films, leisure and protective gear. PC can be used for window glass, while PC laminates are extensively utilized for protective windows in banks, embassies, detention centers, and public places. They are also used for aircraft cabin covers, lighting equipment, industrial safety shields, and bulletproof glass.
PC boards can be used for various signage, such as gas pump dials, car dashboards, warehouse and outdoor commercial signs, dot sliding indicators. PC resin is used in automotive lighting systems, dashboard systems, and interior decoration systems, serving as front lamp covers, reinforced front and rear bumpers for cars, mirror frames, door frame sleeves, control rod covers, flow baffles, and PC is applied as junction boxes, sockets, plugs, and sleeves, washers, TV converter devices. It is also used as telephone line bracket connectors, circuit breaker boxes, telephone switchboards, distribution panel components, and relay enclosures. PC can be used for low-load components, serving in household appliance motors, vacuum cleaners, hair washers, coffee machines, toasters, power tool handles, various gears, worm gears, shaft sleeves, gauges, and refrigerator shelf brackets. PC is the ideal material for optical disc storage media.
PC Bottles (Containers) are transparent, lightweight, and have excellent impact resistance. They are resistant to certain high temperatures and corrosive solutions, making them suitable for recyclable bottles (containers). PC and PC alloys can be used for computer frames, casings, auxiliary machines, printer parts. Modified PC is resistant to high-energy radiation, sterilizable by boiling and baking, and can be used for blood collection devices, blood oxygenators, surgical instruments, dialyzers, and more. PC can also be used for helmets and safety hats, protective masks, sunglasses, and sports eye guards. PC film is widely used in printing charts, packaging, and membrane switches.
Polycarbonate applications and development are moving towards high composite, high-functional, versatile, and series-oriented directions. Various grades and brands for different applications have been launched, including optical discs, automobiles, office equipment, enclosures, packaging, lighting, and film.

Section II: Construction Materials Industry
Polycarbonate sheets offer excellent light transmission, impact resistance, UV radiation resistance, and dimensional stability in their products, along with good molding processing properties, giving them significant technical performance advantages over the inorganic glass traditionally used in construction. China has over 20 production lines for polycarbonate building materials hollow panels, with an annual demand for approximately 70,000 tons of polycarbonate, reaching 140,000 tons by 2005.
Section 3: Automotive Manufacturing Industry
Polycarbonate boasts excellent impact and heat distortion resistance, along with good weatherability and high hardness, making it suitable for producing various components for passenger cars and light trucks. It is primarily used in lighting systems, instrument panels, heating plates, defrosters, and bumpers made from polycarbonate alloys.
Based on data from developed countries, polycarbonate usage in the electronics and automotive manufacturing sectors ranges from 40% to 50%. In China, its usage in this field is only around 10%. Electronics and automotive manufacturing are pillar industries driving China's rapid development, and future demand for polycarbonate in these sectors will be substantial. With a large number of vehicles and high demand, there is immense potential for expansion of polycarbonate applications in the automotive sector.
IV. Equipment
Polycarbonate products are widely used in artificial kidney hemodialysis equipment and other devices that require operation under transparent, intuitive conditions and frequent sterilization, as they can withstand steam, cleaning agents, heat, and high-dose radiation sterilization without yellowing or degradation in physical properties. This includes items like high-pressure syringes, surgical face masks, disposable dental instruments, and blood separators.

Aerospace
With the rapid development of aviation and aerospace technology, the requirements for various components in aircraft and spacecraft are continually increasing, which has led to a growing application of polycarbonate (PC) in this field. Statistics show that a single Boeing aircraft uses up to 2,500 polycarbonate components, consuming approximately 2 tons of PC per aircraft. In spacecraft, hundreds of different configurations of polycarbonate components reinforced with glass fiber, as well as astronaut protective gear, are employed.
Section 6: Packaging Sphere
The latest growth point in the packaging sector is the various models of reusable and sterilizable water bottles. Due to the advantages of polycarbonate products, such as lightweight, impact resistance, and good transparency, they do not deform or lose transparency when washed with hot water and corrosive solutions. In some fields, PC bottles have completely replaced glass bottles. It is predicted that with the increasing emphasis on drinking water quality, the consumption of polycarbonate in this area will grow at a rate of over 10%, reaching an estimated 60,000 tons by 2005.
Section 7: Electronics Industry
Polycarbonate boasts excellent and consistent electrical insulation properties over a wide range of temperatures and humidity, making it an excellent insulating material. Additionally, its good flame resistance and dimensional stability have broadened its application in the electronics and electrical industry.
Polycarbonate resins are primarily used in the production of various food processing machinery, electric tool casings, bodies, brackets, refrigerator freezer drawers, and vacuum cleaner parts. Moreover, in high-precision component applications for computers, video recorders, and color televisions, polycarbonate materials demonstrate their significant value in machine applications.
Optical Lenses
Polycarbonate, with its unique features such as high light transmission, high refractive index, high impact resistance, dimensional stability, and ease of processing and molding, holds a significant position in this field. Optical-grade polycarbonate lenses are not only used in cameras, microscopes, telescopes, and optical testing instruments but also in movie projector lenses, copier lenses, infrared autofocus projectors, laser beam printers, and various prisms, as well as many office equipment and household appliance applications, with a vast market for its use.
Polycarbonate is another significant application in the optical lens field, serving as material for lenses in children's glasses, sunglasses, safety glasses, and adult eyewear. The annual growth rate of polycarbonate consumption in the global eyewear industry has consistently exceeded 20%, indicating strong market vitality.

Chapter 9: CD Manufacturing Industry
With the rise of the information industry, optical-grade polycarbonate discs are rapidly developing as the next-generation medium for audio-visual information storage. Due to their excellent performance characteristics, polycarbonate has become the main raw material for the global optical disc manufacturing industry. The consumption of polycarbonate in the optical disc manufacturing sector has exceeded 20% of the overall consumption, with an annual growth rate of over 10%. China's optical disc production is growing rapidly; according to the National Press and Publication Administration, there were 748 production lines nationwide in 2002, consuming approximately 80,000 tons of optical-grade polycarbonate, all of which were imported. Therefore, the application prospects for polycarbonate in the optical disc manufacturing field are extremely promising.
