PowderMetallurgyIntroduction to Process and Products
Powder metallurgy products are precision-processed from metal powders, such as iron powder, copper powder, and stainless steel powder, using the sintering process: mixing powder — pressing — sintering — finishing — post-processing (oil dipping; packaging; machining, etc.). This involves first filling a mold with the high-purity mixed powder, then shaping it under pressure. The shaped preform is then sintered in a controlled atmosphere furnace at temperatures below the melting point of the base material, resulting in metallurgical bonding between the powder particles.
