PowderMetallurgyIntroduction to Process and Products
Powder metallurgy products are precision-processed from metal powders such as iron, copper, and stainless steel powders, using the forming-sintering method. The traditional process involves mixing the powder, pressing it into shape, sintering, finishing, and subsequent processing (such as oil dipping, packaging, and machining). This entails first filling a mold with a high-purity mixed powder, forming it under pressure, followed by sintering the preforms in a controlled atmosphere furnace at temperatures below the melting point of the base material, thereby forming metallurgical bonds between the powder particles.
