The instrument is connected by an upper motor and motor-driven coupling, with the motor and main shaft being driven by a universal joint. The lower end of the main shaft is fitted with an electrode head, which is threaded to accommodate various electrodes and is held in contact by a spring-loaded pin on the shaft.
