Dust refers to solid particles suspended in the air. According to the International Organization for Standardization, solid particles with a diameter less than 75μm are defined as dust. The presence of dust in the atmosphere is one of the main reasons for maintaining the Earth's temperature. An excessive or insufficient amount of dust in the atmosphere can have catastrophic effects on the environment.
The primary sources of industrial dust include:
(1) Solid materials formed by mechanical impact, grinding, and rolling, which are suspended in the air as solid particles due to air flow.
(2) Fumes formed by condensation or oxidation of steam produced during material heating.
(3) Smoke formed from incomplete combustion.
Methods for dust control include bag dust collection, wet ventilation dust removal, water or spray dust removal, and biological nano-film dust suppression, among others.
