The impeller of the W-type vortex pump is a solid circular disk, with numerous radial small blades on both sides of its outer edge.
A circular flow channel with a first cross-section is present on the pump casing at the corresponding blade location. The entire channel is divided into suction and discharge sections by a baffle, which are separately connected to the pump's suction and discharge pipelines.
The liquid inside the pump rotates along with the impeller, generating a certain centrifugal force that throws it outward into the annular channel of the pump casing. Under the restriction of the channel shape, the liquid is forced to回流 back and re-enter the next channel behind, starting from the root of the blades. Therefore, the movement path of the liquid between the blades and the annular channel is a forward spiral line for the stationary pump casing, but a backward spiral line for the rotating impeller. The W-type vortex pump gets its name from this swirling motion of the liquid. The W-type vortex pump operates somewhat like a multi-stage centrifugal pump, but it lacks the energy conversion devices such as the centrifugal pump volute or guide vanes. The W-type vortex pump primarily transfers energy to the liquid through multiple consecutive work cycles, enabling it to produce higher pressure. During the energy transfer process, due to the multiple impacts of the liquid, there is significant energy loss, resulting in a lower pump efficiency, typically 20-50%. The W-type vortex pump is suitable for applications requiring low flow rates (1-40 m³/h) and high lift (up to 250 m), such as fire pumps, gasoline pumps on refueling trucks, and feedwater pumps for small boilers. The W-type vortex pump can transport highly volatile and gaseous liquids but should not be used for transporting thick liquids with a viscosity greater than 7 Pa·s or impure liquids containing solid particles. The W-type vortex pump is characterized by its small flow rate, high lift, self-priming function, and is capable of transporting liquids without solid particles and with viscosities less than 5 degrees E, similar to water, such as gasoline, kerosene, alcohol, etc. It can be used for purposes such as refilling small steam boilers, chemical industries, pharmaceuticals, high-rise water supply, etc. The flow components are available in materials like stainless steel for transporting corrosive liquids such as acids and alkalis. The temperature range for the medium being transported is -20 to +80 degrees Celsius. The pump can be structured into single-stage, double-stage, multi-stage, and directly coupled configurations.
