Insulating bearings are a general term for bearings that can prevent current from passing through and have their own insulating properties.

The significant feature of shaft current corrosion in motor generators is the formation of dense, "bumpy" grooved stripes on the inner and outer rings of the motor bearings and the ball bearings. The high temperature released from the local discharge energy of the shaft current can melt many small areas on the inner and outer rings or ball bearings, creating grooves and resulting in noise and vibration. If not detected and addressed promptly, it can lead to bearing failure, affecting production.

Insulating bearings utilize the principle of cutting off the current circuit, with a ceramic coating of 50-200μm thickness applied to the bearing surface. This coating serves as an electrical insulator, capable of withstanding electrical arcing under 1000V voltage, while thicker coatings can resist high-voltage discharges above 1000V.

Insulating bearings are coated with a special spray process on the inner and outer diameter surfaces, as well as the end faces, to prevent the electro-erosive effect of induced current on the bearings. This guards against damage to the grease, rolling elements, and raceways by the current, thereby extending the bearing's service life.
