Description of Clock IC DS1302ZN:
The DS1302 slow-charging real-time clock (RTC) chip includes a real-time clock/calendar and 31 bytes of non-volatile static RAM. It communicates with a microprocessor via a simple serial interface. The real-time clock/calendar can count seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, and years. It automatically adjusts the end-of-the-month date for months with fewer than 31 days and features leap year correction. The clock can be in 24-hour format or a 12-hour format with AM (morning) or PM (afternoon). The 31-byte RAM can be used to temporarily store important data. Synchronous serial communication simplifies the communication between the DS1302 and the microprocessor. Communication with the clock/RAM requires only 3 lines: (1) RST (reset), (2) I/O (data line), and (3) SCLK (serial clock). Data can be transmitted in single-byte form, up to 31 bytes in multi-byte form. The DS1302 operates at very low power consumption, requiring less than 1µW to save data and clock information.
