DHL Expands Air Freight Capabilities in New Zealand and Australia Recently, DHL Express has commenced its upgraded overnight direct freight service connecting Auckland, New Zealand, and Melbourne, Australia, enhancing its trans-Tasman air freight capabilities. The new dedicated freighter operates five flights per week, each carrying an additional 34 tons compared to the previous 737s. With the larger aircraft cargo hold, the wide-body design can accommodate 24 unit load devices (ULDs) on the main deck, compared to a maximum of 11 on the 737s. The expanded capacity supports the trade needs and growth between the two countries. Mark Foy, Managing Director of DHL Express New Zealand and Pacific Islands, said, "The company is delighted to announce the arrival of the upgraded dedicated freighter, connecting Auckland and Melbourne. As freight volumes between New Zealand and Australia grow, this aircraft will ensure reliable service performance and improve efficiency, reaffirming our commitment to supporting trans-Tasman trade." Additionally, the aircraft's fuel efficiency is higher due to its ability to fly at higher altitudes and speeds. This provides New Zealand and Australian businesses with a faster and more reliable freight delivery route, benefiting from a one-day freight transit time in major urban areas. The new DHL-branded aircraft strengthens DHL's existing trans-Tasman air freight capabilities, matching the current DHL Express Auckland to Sydney freighter model, which will now add a flight to Christchurch. Mark Foy said, "This new freighter improves the connectivity of New Zealand businesses, as it complements our current 'Auckland-Sydney' route and adds a stop in Christchurch. The connection between the North Island and the South Island provides the much-needed freight capacity to meet the growing volume of freight we are seeing. The company is confident in better supporting New Zealand businesses through our international distribution network."
Germany Post DHL opens new German package center. Recently, Germany Post DHL has invested millions of euros to build a new package center in a new factory near Munich, Bavaria. The new package center, connected to the existing sorting center via a highway tunnel, can handle up to 40,000 packages per hour. The new factory has created 500 new jobs, with a total of 600 employees. Nikola Hagleitner, the head of DPDHL's German postal and package department, said: "With the establishment of the new package center, the company urgently needs additional sorting capacity to serve the Greater Munich area and most of Upper Bavaria. The 500 new jobs created by the distribution center will be covered by collective agreements and require social security contributions." The new center spans 67,000 square meters and features a range of sustainable features, including a roof photovoltaic system that provides green power, heating from geothermal energy, and a partially green roof for insulation. He also mentioned that DHL currently operates a total of 38 package centers across Germany, contributing to climate protection through innovative sorting technology and ecological sustainable architectural concepts.
