Product Overview

A multi-effect evaporator is composed of various systems including effect heaters, separators, condensers, thermal pumps, sterilizers, insulated pipes, vacuum systems, effect liquid transfer pumps, condensate drainage pumps, operation platforms, electrical instrument control cabinets, and valves, as well as piping. A multi-effect evaporator combines multiple single-effect evaporators into a single evaporation system, referred to as a multi-effect evaporator. Depending on the connection type, it can be classified into countercurrent, cocurrent, and mixed flow types. The characteristic of multi-effect evaporation is to utilize the secondary steam produced in the previous effect to drive the subsequent evaporator, thereby saving energy consumption. Typically, there are double-effect, triple-effect, and even higher-effect evaporation systems, but the more stages, the more control points, and the smaller the driving force of the temperature difference between stages. The specific situation should be determined based on practical feasibility.

Multi-effect evaporators can be categorized by their application into two types: the standard multi-effect evaporation system and the forced circulation multi-effect evaporator. The forced circulation evaporator is a type that, in addition to multiple external circulation evaporators, incorporates an external circulation pump to increase the flow rate of the material within the evaporation tubes, enhancing heat transfer efficiency and boosting evaporation intensity. The forced circulation evaporator is suitable for use in situations where crystallization occurs during the evaporation process, particularly with non-heat-sensitive materials.

Application Scope

This unit is suitable for continuous low-temperature evaporation concentration in industries such as milk, starch, xylitol, chemicals, biotechnology, environmental protection engineering, and waste liquid recycling. It boasts high heat transfer efficiency and short heating time for materials, making it particularly ideal for heat-sensitive, sticky, and foamy materials.

Operating Principle

In industrial production, evaporating a large amount of water requires a significant consumption of heating steam. To reduce the amount of heating steam used, multi-effect evaporation can be employed. Multi-effect evaporation requires the operating pressure and boiling point of the solution in the subsequent effects to be lower than those in the preceding effects. Therefore, the secondary steam from the preceding effects can be used as the heating medium for the subsequent effects, making the heating chamber of the subsequent effects act as a condenser for the secondary steam of the preceding effects. Only the first effect requires the consumption of raw steam, which is the principle of multi-effect evaporation. Generally, the final effect or the last few effects of a multi-effect evaporation unit operate under vacuum. Since the secondary steam of each effect (except the final effect) is used as the heating steam for the next evaporator, the utilization rate of the raw steam is improved, enhancing its economic efficiency. If the amount of water evaporated is the same in a single-effect or multi-effect evaporation unit, the former requires a much greater amount of raw steam than the latter.
